PRODUCT DETAILS

PRL Motorsports Front Mount Intercooler - 2019-2025 Acura RDX 2.0T

Honda's newer turbo platforms heat soak, and the RDX is no exception. Once the factory intercooler saturates, charge air temperatures climb, the ECU pulls timing to protect against detonation, and the power you had disappears. This PRL unit runs a bar-and-plate core rated to 550+ horsepower with 83% more internal flow than stock, mounting in the factory location with no cutting or trimming.

2021 And Newer Need The Install Kit

Read this before ordering, because it's an additional part rather than an optional accessory.

2019-2020 RDX fits directly. Nothing else required.

2021 and newer RDX requires the PRL front mount intercooler install kit for fitment. Acura changed enough in the front end that the kit is what makes this work.

Check your year and add the kit to the same order if you need it. Discovering the requirement with the front bumper already off is a frustrating way to spend a Saturday.

What Heat Soak Actually Costs You

Worth understanding, because the symptom is gradual rather than dramatic.

An intercooler that can't shed heat fast enough lets intake temperatures climb. Higher charge air temperature means higher cylinder temperature, which raises the risk of detonation. The ECU responds by pulling timing, and pulled timing means lost power.

In practice you get full power on the first pull and noticeably less by the third or fourth. It's worse with spirited driving and considerably worse once you've added power, since you're pushing more air through a core that was sized for factory output.

The RDX is a heavy vehicle with a small turbocharged engine working hard, which is exactly the recipe for this.

83% More Internal Flow

The core is where the improvement comes from.

PRL uses a dense bar-and-plate core measuring 25.5 x 3.0 x 9.75", rated to 550+ horsepower and flowing 83% more internally than the factory unit.

Bar-and-plate construction matters here. It's heavier than tube-and-fin but considerably more durable and more efficient at transferring heat, which is why it's what serious intercoolers use. More internal volume means more surface area for that transfer, and the result is charge air arriving cooler and staying cooler through repeated pulls.

No Cutting, No Trimming, No Tune

Three things that make this straightforward.

It uses the factory mounting points, cast aluminum end tanks, and all the factory air ducts and shrouds. That means nothing gets cut, nothing gets trimmed, and the front of your RDX stays as Acura built it.

No ECU calibration is required. A better intercooler improves what the engine already does rather than changing how it's metered, so the factory tune remains correct.

All hardware needed is in the box. Torque the intercooler to 18 ft-lb.

Silver Or Black

Two finishes, and it's purely a look.

The core is visible through the front bumper opening, so this is a choice you'll see every time you walk up to the car.

Silver is the traditional intercooler appearance. It's obvious there's something behind the grille, which some owners want.

Black disappears into the bumper opening, so the RDX looks stock from the front. The better pick if you'd rather not advertise what's under the hood.

Who Should Grab This

This is for the RDX owner who's noticed the car going flat after a few hard pulls, and for anyone adding power who'd rather not have the intercooler become the limiting factor. Bar-and-plate core with real capacity, factory mounting with nothing cut, and no tune required. Check your year, add the install kit if you need it, and get power that holds.
