YCP Vitara Pistons - D15/D16 SOHC (Turbo/Forced Induction)

Vitara pistons are the proven, affordable way to build a boosted D-series, the piston that's held up to more turbo D16 abuse than almost anything else at the price. These YCP Vitara pistons are a stronger casting than the factory D-series pistons, built for turbo and forced-induction use, and they've got the track record to back it: we hold the world horsepower record on these pistons in a stock-sleeved D16Z6, and we've run countless street engines past 470 whp on a pump-gas setup with them. For a D-series boost build that doesn't cost forged money, these are the piston.

Pick Your Bore Size

These come in three sizes to match your block, so measure before you order. Most popular D-series engines use a 75mm standard bore:

75mm (standard) is the stock bore for the D15B, D15Z, D16A6, D16Z6, D16Y8, and D16 ZC SOHC. If your block is at factory spec, this is your size.

75.5mm (0.5mm over) is for a block that's been bored 0.5mm oversize, common when a cylinder needs cleaning up during a rebuild.

76mm (1mm over) is for a block bored 1mm oversize.

If your block's been bored, order the size for the final bore, not the original. If you're unsure, measure it or check with your machine shop.

With or Without Rings

Choose the configuration for your build.

With rings is the complete set: 4 YCP pistons with pins and clips, plus a complete ring set, everything to build the engine. This is the simplest buy for a full build.

Without rings is the pistons, pins, and clips only, for anyone who's running specific rings or already has them. If you need rings separately, we stock the Vitara piston rings on their own, so you can match your ring choice to your build.

Why Vitara Pistons Hold Up

These are built stronger than the factory D-series pistons, which is what lets them take boost.

They're cast from a stronger AC8A-grade material than OEM, and T6 heat-treated for greater strength and heat resistance, exactly what a boosted piston needs, since forced induction loads and heats the pistons far beyond stock. They use 19mm floating wrist pins that fit aftermarket D16 forged connecting rods, so they pair with a proper rod for a complete bottom end.

The details add up: dual oil holes provide better wrist pin lubrication, and a Teflon coating increases piston life, improves cylinder sealing for less blow-by, and reduces friction to free up a little power. For a cast piston, these are seriously capable, which is why they've earned their reputation on high-power D-series builds.

Pair Them With H-Beam Rods

Worth planning for, because the rod choice matters with Vitara pistons.

Vitara pistons are designed to run on aftermarket forged rods, and the 19mm floating pins fit forged D-series H-beam rods. The ideal pairing is a set of longer H-beam rods built specifically for Vitara pistons, they put the Vitara piston at the correct deck height, which recovers compression and sharpens response without notching the block or girdle. We stock the SpeedFactory no-notch Vitara H-beam rods that make the Vitara pistons sit where they should, so you can grab both and build the bottom end right.

Build Notes

A few things for the install, since these go into a built engine.

Install the pistons with the arrows pointing toward the flywheel side of the engine, for correct valve relief orientation and piston pin offset. Get that orientation right, it's not interchangeable.

Recommended clearances: piston-to-wall .0025", top and second ring end gap .020"-.024", oil control ring end gap .015" minimum. Your machine shop will set these during the build, but they're worth confirming for a boosted application.

This is for the D-series builder going turbo or forced induction who wants proven, affordable pistons that hold real power, without stepping up to forged prices. A stronger-than-OEM AC8A casting, T6 heat-treated, Teflon-coated, with floating pins that fit forged D16 rods, and a genuine track record (a stock-sleeved D16Z6 world record and 470+ whp street builds). Measure your bore to pick the right size, choose with or without rings, pair them with our H-beam rods, and build a boosted D-series that holds together.

Engines: D15/D16 SOHC (turbo/forced induction). Bore sizes: 75mm (standard for D15B/D15Z/D16A6/D16Z6/D16Y8/D16 ZC SOHC), 75.5mm (+0.5mm), 76mm (+1mm). Configurations: with rings (complete set) or without (pistons/pins/clips only; rings sold separately). Includes (with rings): 4 pistons, pins, clips, and complete ring set. Construction: AC8A casting, T6 heat-treated, Teflon-coated, 19mm floating pins. Pairs with: SFR no-notch Vitara H-beam rods. Install: arrows toward flywheel side.
