Wunderladen Racing Oil Dipstick - 2017-2026 Honda Civic Type R (FK8/FL5)
If you've ever tried to check the oil on your Type R right after an oil change, you already know how frustrating the factory dipstick is. Honda made the level-marked area out of orange plastic, and it's terrible at the one job it has. The oil doesn't cling to it well and it barely contrasts against the orange, so you're standing there squinting trying to figure out if you're actually at the right level. That's a real problem on a car you care about, because guessing on your oil level isn't something you want to do. Wunderladen Racing fixed it. This is an all-metal dipstick with proper, easy-to-read hash marks for your high and low points, plus a grid pattern machined into it that actually holds onto the oil so you can see exactly where your level sits at a glance. No more squinting. No more second-guessing. You pull it, you read it, you know. Yeah, it looks great in the bay too with the billet handle, but the real reason to run it is that it does the actual job better than the part Honda gave you.
Here's Why The Factory Orange Plastic Is The Problem
It comes down to two things the factory dipstick does wrong. First, that orange plastic doesn't retain oil, so when you pull the stick the oil sheets right off and you're left with barely anything to read. Second, even when there is oil on it, dark oil against an orange background just doesn't contrast, so you can't tell where the wet line actually is. Put those together and checking your oil turns into a guessing game, which is the last thing you want right after a change when you're trying to confirm you filled it correctly. Wunderladen's metal stick with the grid pattern solves both. The grid grabs and holds the oil so there's a clear wet line every time, and the markings are machined right into the metal where you can actually read them. It's the difference between knowing your oil level and hoping you've got it close.
A Wider Reading Range Tuned To The Windage Tray
This is where the Type R stick goes beyond just being easier to read. Wunderladen spread the high and low markings further apart to give you a wider reading range, and they set the high mark right at the factory windage tray. That's a big deal. It means you can run a little more oil in your Type R while keeping it under the windage tray, which helps the oil last longer and hold pressure better when you're driving the car hard. And because the mark's set there, you can actually read that extra oil instead of overfilling blind. They set the low mark a bit lower too so you can clearly see where you're at if you're running low. The recommendation is to always keep your oil at least above the halfway point, and now you've got a stick that actually lets you see it.
A Stiffer Seal So It Won't Blow Out Under Boost
Here's a detail that matters if you're running real boost. Wunderladen fine-tuned the o-ring fit to seal a little stiffer than the factory dipstick. Why does that matter? Because when you're pushing high boost you build up a lot of crankcase pressure, and a loose-sealing dipstick can actually get pushed out and spray oil all over your engine bay. That's a mess and a problem you don't want to find out about mid-pull. The tighter seal keeps the stick seated where it belongs even when crankcase pressure climbs. It's a small thing that saves you a big headache.
Billet Handle In Your Choice Of Color
The dorky orange plastic handle is gone too. In its place is a billet aluminum handle, and you can get it in red, purple, blue, black, or silver to match or accent your engine bay. So yeah, it cleans up the look under the hood, that's a nice bonus. But pair that with a stick that's genuinely easier to read and seals better under boost and you've got a part that earns its place, not just a shiny piece for show. One heads up, the metal handle does get hot, so take some care checking your oil on a hot engine.
Driving An Integra Type S Or A Civic Si/1.5T?
This dipstick is built specifically for the FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R, so make sure that's what you've got before you order. If you're running an Acura Integra Type S or a Civic Si or 1.5T car, Wunderladen makes a dipstick tuned for your engine instead, with markings set up for your application. Don't grab this Type R version for those cars. Head over to the matching dipstick for your chassis so you get the correct fit and the right level markings for your engine.

Note: Wunderladen Racing oil dipstick for 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R FK8 and 2023-2026 Honda Civic Type R FL5 (K20C1). All-metal stick with machined high and low hash marks and a grid pattern that retains oil for clear, accurate level reading - a major improvement over the hard-to-read factory orange plastic. High and low markings spread further for a wider reading range; high mark set at the factory windage tray so you can run additional oil while keeping it under the tray for better oil life and pressure under hard driving (keep oil above the halfway point). Stiffer-than-factory o-ring seal resists dipstick blow-out from high crankcase pressure on high-boost setups. Billet aluminum handle available in red, purple, blue, black, or silver. Caution: handle gets hot - take care checking oil on a hot engine. This version fits the FK8/FL5 Civic Type R only - Integra Type S and Civic Si/1.5T owners should select the dipstick made for their engine. Made in the USA. One dipstick per order.
