Whiteline Front Roll Center Correction Kit (KCA520) - 02-04 RSX & 02-05 Civic
Drop a DC5 or an EP3 two inches on coilovers and something happens that nobody warns you about: your front roll center falls below the pavement. That's why a slammed K20 car can roll more than it did stock, even with much stiffer springs holding it up. This Whiteline kit is a pair of extended lower ball joints that put the control arm angle back where Honda designed it and get the front end working properly again.
Why A Lowered Car Rolls More
Worth understanding, because it's counterintuitive and it explains why springs alone don't fix it.
The roll center is the point your chassis rotates around in a corner, and it's set by the angle of your lower control arms. At stock height those arms sit roughly level. Lower the car and the arms tip up at the outboard end, which pulls the roll center down with them, sometimes below ground level entirely.
The problem is leverage. The further your roll center sits from your center of gravity, the longer the lever the body has to roll around. So lowering the car geometrically increases roll even while the springs are fighting it. What you feel is more body roll than you expected, more compression on the outside front tire, and less grip, regardless of spring rate.
Whiteline's kit swaps the factory ball joints for taller ones. The knuckle sits higher on the arm, the arm returns to a flatter angle, and the roll center comes back up where it belongs. On a lowered RSX Type-S the difference is a car that stays flatter, loads the outside front evenly, and turns in without the front tire folding over onto its shoulder.
This Is For Lowered Cars
Be direct about this one. On a stock height RSX or Civic, the kit raises the roll center past where it should be and does nothing useful for you.
The sweet spot is a car dropped somewhere between an inch and a half and two and a half inches on coilovers or serious springs. That's where track and autocross drivers notice the biggest change, and it's where the geometry problem is real rather than theoretical.
Check Your Control Arms Before Ordering
This is the thing to get right, because the wrong kit physically won't press in.
KCA520 is built for the factory steel lower control arms with a 12mm ball joint stud. That covers the 2002-2004 RSX and the 2002-2005 7th gen Civic as they left the factory.
Two situations where you need something different:
Running JDM DC5 Type R aluminum arms? Those take Whiteline's KCA521 instead. It's a common swap, so worth checking what's actually on your car rather than assuming.
Got an 05-06 RSX? Whiteline doesn't list those years for this kit. Confirm your stud size and arm type before ordering rather than hoping it's the same.
Roll Center Only, Not Bump Steer
Being clear about scope. This kit is two ball joints and it corrects roll center. That's it.
Bump steer on a lowered car is a separate problem living in the tie rods, and it's what causes the steering to get darty over bumps after a drop. Whiteline sells KCA517 extended tie rod ends for that, and plenty of people run both since lowering a car creates both problems at once.
If your steering has gone twitchy since the drop, ball joints alone won't fix it.
Plan The Install
The ball joints press into the lower arms, so this is a press job rather than a driveway swap. If your factory joints already have play in them, that's ideal timing, since you were going to be doing this work anyway.
Book a front alignment for the same day. A taller ball joint changes both camber and toe, and driving on it unaligned means eating tires and a car that won't track straight.
Fitment
2002-2004 Acura RSX Base and Type-S (K20A3, K20A2)
2002-2005 Honda Civic, all trims including Si (EP3, EM2, ES)
For factory steel lower control arms with a 12mm ball joint stud.
Who Should Run This Kit
This is for the DC5 or EP3 owner who's lowered the car and wants the front geometry corrected rather than fighting what the drop did to it. Autocross, track days, or a fast street car where turn-in matters. It's the kind of modification that doesn't show up on a dyno but changes what the car does at the limit. Confirm your arms, get the press work done, book the alignment, and get your front end back.
