If you want a 10th gen Civic Si or FK8 Type R that sits lower, rolls less and turns in harder without going to coilovers, this is the one-box answer. The Whiteline Grip Series suspension kit for the 2016-2021 Civic bundles their progressive lowering springs with a front and rear adjustable sway bar set and the end links to hang them, so the whole front and rear roll stiffness gets sorted in one weekend.

What It Is and Why It Works

The kit is two Whiteline part numbers in one box: the WSK-HON017 spring set and the BHK017 sway bar kit. Whiteline's current spec for the springs is 4.5 kg/mm front and 5.1 kg/mm rear, roughly 253 and 286 lb/in, with about a 20mm drop at both ends. They are progressive rate, so the car rides close to stock on small bumps and firms up as it loads, and they are built to work with the factory dampers. The bars are a 27mm front and 22mm rear, each with two adjustment holes, and the kit includes heavy-duty ball-joint end links so you are not hanging a bigger bar on the factory plastic links.

The point of doing springs and bars together is balance. Springs alone drop the car and add roll stiffness at both ends about equally; a bar set lets you tune where the roll stiffness goes. On an FC Si that pushes at the limit, the rear bar on the stiff hole and the front on soft neutralizes it. On an FK8 that is already sharp, the soft settings at both ends give you a flatter car without upsetting the balance Honda dialed in.

Whiteline lists GS1-HON017 for the whole 10th gen Civic FC and FK including the Si and the FK8 Type R. Our structured fitment currently carries the 2017-2020 Si and 2017-2021 Type R. Spring rates and ride height change are quoted by Whiteline for the kit as a whole, so expect the drop to look different on a Type R with its stiffer factory springs than on an Si.

What to Know Before You Buy

Whiteline has revised this kit. Older dealer listings still describe 24mm front and rear bars with 4.2 and 3.8 kg/mm springs and a 35mm drop; Whiteline's current page lists the 27mm front, 22mm rear and 20mm drop above. If you order it expecting the older 35mm drop, you will be disappointed. Ask us to confirm what is in current stock if the drop matters to you.

A 20mm drop on factory dampers is the sensible limit. Go lower than that on stock shocks and you run out of travel; if you want more drop, skip this and go to coilovers. On a Type R, the adaptive dampers work fine with these springs but the car will sit closer to the bump stops in Plus R mode on a rough road.

Plan on an alignment and expect the rear bar to make the car rotate more than you are used to. Start on the soft settings, drive it for a week, then move the rear to hard if it still pushes. Install is a full day for springs and bars together; the rear bar on the 10th gen is straightforward, the front springs need a spring compressor and patience with the dual-axis strut on the Type R.
