The Honda B-series gets turbocharged and pushed to high horsepower as much as any engine out there, and the block's open-deck design becomes the limit once the power climbs. The Supertech block guard for B16, B18, and B20 engines adds durability and longevity to the block on those builds. It fills the gap between the outside of the cylinder wall and the rest of the block, adding rigidity to reduce cylinder flex and help prevent cracking, exactly what a high-stress, high-boost engine needs.

Why A Block Guard

On a stock B-series the cylinders are only supported at the bottom, so under high cylinder pressure the walls can flex and, eventually, crack. That's the failure point that ends a lot of built turbo B-series engines. A block guard braces the top of the cylinders against the block, stiffening the whole deck so the cylinders stay round and supported when you're making serious power. It's one of the key steps in taking a B-series bottom end beyond stock power levels reliably.

Designed To Keep Cooling Intact

A block guard has to add rigidity without choking off coolant flow, and that's where a lot of cheaper guards fall short. Supertech's guard is designed and tested to support the highly stressed cylinder walls while still allowing adequate water flow to the critical areas, so you avoid the hot spots that a poorly designed guard can create. It's machined from high-strength, corrosion-resistant 6061 aluminum alloy and CNC-cut for a proper fit.

Install It Right

This is an engine-apart part, installed during a build or rebuild, not a bolt-on. It should go in as part of machine work with the block out and apart, so plan it into your build with your engine builder. Done correctly, it braces the cylinders and keeps cooling flowing the way it should.
