SpeedFactory AWD B-Series Billet Transmission Bellhousing
Building a big-power AWD B-series drag trans and worried the factory cast bellhousing is the weak link waiting to let go? It is, and this is the fix. The SpeedFactory AWD B-series billet bellhousing is machined from solid aluminum to take the kind of power and abuse that turns a stock cast housing into shrapnel. This isn't a theory part, either, it's the exact housing under SpeedFactory's own 2000-horsepower, 6-second B-series Outlaw drag car. If it survives that, it'll survive your build.
Why Billet, And Why The Cast One Fails
Here's the deal with the factory piece. The OEM bellhousing is cast, and cast aluminum just isn't built for the loads a high-power AWD B-series build throws at it, once you're making real power, it flexes and cracks, and when your bellhousing lets go, the whole transmission goes with it. This one is CNC machined from solid 6061-T6 aluminum billet to extremely tight tolerances, so instead of a porous casting, you've got a dense, solid chunk of aluminum holding everything in place. It handles extreme power and the most brutal top-tier racing abuse, and it does all that while only being about 9 lbs heavier than the flimsy stock housing. That's a tiny weight penalty for night-and-day strength.
Proven Where It Counts
This is where the SpeedFactory name really matters. They didn't just machine a housing and hope, they proved it under their own 2000hp, 6-second AWD B-series Outlaw car, one of the hardest environments you can put a transmission through. That track record is exactly why several other top teams and shops now base their AWD B-series race transmission builds on this very housing. When the best builders in the game make your part the foundation of their builds, that tells you what you're getting.
Designed To Actually Build Right
Anybody can machine a block of aluminum, but the details are what make this one a dream to build instead of a fight. SpeedFactory baked in the stuff that other billet housings get wrong:
- A modified countershaft bearing retention plate location that clears larger-diameter aftermarket countershaft teeth, while still keeping the OEM plate and locking tab, no grinding or modification needed (2022+ update).
- Clearance for oversized (versus stock) PPG crown wheel and transfer drive gear, so your big aftermarket gears fit.
- A built-in axle seal stop, so you get easy, precise seal depth control during assembly instead of guessing.
- Retained OEM oil control features, the lubrication details that other housings leave out or get wrong, which is exactly the kind of thing that kills a race trans.
Put simply, it's precise, it's accurate, and it's built to go together right, which is more than you can say for a lot of the billet housings out there.
What It's Set Up To Run
A few compatibility notes so you can plan your build. This housing is designed to work with multiplate twin or triple disc 7.25" clutches and a Tilton hydraulic release bearing, that's the setup it's built around. Current housings (2022+) clear the OEM clutch forks; older housings from early 2021 may need minor clearancing if you're running a stock clutch fork and release bearing. It's compatible with all currently known aftermarket gearsets, transfer drive gears, and differentials, so it drops into a serious build without drama. And to finish off the driveline, pair it with the SpeedFactory AWD B-series billet transfer case for the full proven combo.
Important: Have A Pro Build It
This is a foundation for a built race transmission, not a bolt-on. It requires proper assembly and shimming to OEM specifications to work correctly, so unless you're a seasoned transmission builder yourself, have it assembled by a reputable transmission rebuilding specialist. Get the build done right and this housing will be the last thing in your trans you ever worry about.
