SpeedFactory Vitara H-Beam Connecting Rods - Honda D16 & ZC

If you're building a turbo D16 on Vitara pistons, the deck height is the problem these rods solve. A standard-length rod leaves Vitara pistons sitting low in the bore, which drops your compression and blunts the engine. These SpeedFactory H-beam rods are longer, built to put Vitara pistons at the correct deck height, so you recover compression, sharpen throttle response, and do it without notching the block or girdle. They're aimed squarely at 300-500hp street turbo D16 builds where you want strong, simple, and repeatable.

Why The Longer Rod Matters

This is the whole reason these exist, so it's worth understanding.

Vitara pistons are a popular, affordable choice for building a turbo D16, but they're not designed for the D16's deck height, drop them in on standard rods and they sit too low in the bore, leaving dead space and low compression. On a turbo build that means a lazier engine and worse throttle response than you should have.

These rods are longer (138.63mm center-to-center) to raise the piston to where it belongs. That bumps your static compression up roughly a full point depending on your head, which sharpens response and efficiency, all without the block or girdle notching that other approaches to the same problem require. The rod is profiled to clear the factory girdle, so it drops in without grinding.

What The Compression Actually Works Out To

The gain depends on your head, so here's the real math for common combinations.

D16 Block With Head Standard Rods SpeedFactory H-Beam
D16Y8 head7.8:1~8.8:1
D16Z6 / Y7 / D15B head7.6:1~8.5:1
D15B7 / D16A6 head7.3:1~8.1:1

Those are healthy compression ratios for a turbo build, enough to wake the engine up off boost and improve response, without being so high that you're fighting detonation under boost. It's the balance you want on a street turbo D16.

Built To Take Boost

The construction is proper forged-rod build, rated to a realistic 500hp on these engines.

They're a two-piece forged 4340 chromoly, then heat-treated, magnaflux-inspected for flaws, CNC-machined, and shot-peened for fatigue resistance. That's the full process a quality rod goes through, and it's what lets a 473-gram rod handle the shock loading of a boosted engine without being the weak link.

The big ends use precision alignment dowels to hold the bore size and prevent cap walk under load, and the small ends use bronze alloy pin bushings for a true floating wrist pin, which also makes piston swaps straightforward. Every rod comes with 3/8" ARP2000 bolts rated to 220,000 psi, so there's no guessing at hardware or sourcing bolts separately, and each set is balanced to within a gram so all four cylinders share the load evenly.

Who Should Grab These

This is for the builder putting together a turbo D16 on Vitara pistons who wants the compression and deck height right, in the 300-500hp street range. Forged 4340, the full heat-treat and shot-peen process, ARP2000 hardware included, girdle-clearance profiling so they drop in, and the correct length to put Vitara pistons where they belong. Confirm your head for the compression you'll land at, and build a D16 that responds like it should.
