SpeedFactory No-Notch H-Beam Rods JDM D15B Vitara Spec
The JDM D15B with Vitara pistons is one of the great budget turbo recipes in the Honda world, a 300 to 500 hp street setup built from junkyard-adjacent money. The catch has always been the rods. Off-the-shelf D16 rods are oversized and heavy for the job, they park the Vitara pistons at the wrong deck height, and they force you to notch your block and girdle, permanent surgery on your engine, just to clear. These SpeedFactory no-notch H-beam rods were built specifically for the Vitara piston JDM D15B SOHC VTEC combo, and they fix all three problems at once.
What It Is and Why It Works
The custom 136.38mm center-to-center length is the smart part. It brings the Vitara pistons up to proper deck height, which recovers the compression that standard-length rods give away: roughly 8.2:1 with a D16Y8 head, 8.0:1 with a D16Z6, Y7, or D15B head, and 7.6:1 with a D15B7 or D16A6 head, per SpeedFactory's build chart. Every one of those numbers is squarely in boost-friendly territory, and the difference between running 8.0:1 instead of something in the sixes is real off-boost drivability and efficiency on a street car. The rod profile clears the factory sleeves and girdle completely, so the block goes together without a die grinder touching it, and at 462 grams these are substantially lighter than the D16 rods this build used to require.
Construction is proper rod-shop spec: forged SAE 4340 chromoly, 100% CNC machined, magnafluxed, multi-stage heat treated, and shot-peened for stress relief. Precision alignment dowels locate the caps to hold big-end bore size and eliminate cap walk, the pin ends run bronze alloy bushings for floating wrist pins, and the bolts are 220,000 psi 3/8 inch ARP2000. Sets are balanced to within 1 gram, each rod carries a laser-etched SFR logo, and SpeedFactory rates them to 500 hp. Instructions and ARP assembly lube come in the box.

Read this before ordering: these fit the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC and nothing else. The JDM SOHC VTEC D15B is the odd one in the family, running the larger D16-style 48mm big end on a 45mm crank journal. The JDM 3-stage VTEC D15B and every USDM D15 use the smaller 45mm big end and will not accept these rods. Pull a rod cap or check your engine's provenance before you order, because a rod set is not a part you want to guess on.
What to Know Before You Buy
Know which no-notch rod you actually need, because SpeedFactory makes three and they look identical in a search result: this JDM D15B version, a USDM D15B version with the smaller big end, and a D16/ZC version at a longer 138.63mm length. Match the rod to the block casting in your engine bay, not to what the seller's title says. If you're starting from scratch and haven't bought pistons yet, SpeedFactory also packages these rods with the Vitara-spec pistons as a combo, which
