SpeedFactory DBD-850 Dual Backdoor Intercooler 600-850HP
You're deep enough into a turbo K20, K24, or B-series build that the eBay core has become the weak link. Intake temps climb after the second pull, timing pulls itself out, and the car that felt strong on the first run feels soft on the third. The SpeedFactory DBD-850 Dual Backdoor Intercooler is the bar and plate front mount SpeedFactory built for exactly that car, rated for 600 to 850 horsepower per manufacturer and sized to tuck between the frame rails without a foot of charge piping on each side.
What It Is and Why It Works
The core is 24 inches wide, 12 inches tall, and 3 inches thick, built bar and plate rather than tube and fin. Bar and plate holds up better to boost pressure cycling and gives you more internal surface area per inch of core, which is why it's what shows up on Honda builds that actually see repeat pulls instead of one dyno graph. SpeedFactory runs a staggered fin arrangement through the core to keep pressure drop down while still pulling heat out of the charge air.
The end tanks are hand-formed from H-3 5052 aluminum and fully TIG welded rather than cast, and they're what give this unit its name. SpeedFactory sells the same 600-850HP core in three different tank configurations, and the dual backdoor version routes the 3 inch inlet and outlet so your charge pipes run short and stay tucked. That matters more than most people expect. On an EG or EK with the bumper support cut and a tight core support, the difference between a backdoor tank and a side inlet tank is whether your piping clears the crank pulley or fights it.
Both ports are 3 inch bead rolled tube ends, so standard silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps grip properly instead of walking off under boost. The M8 x 1.25mm aluminum mounting bungs are already welded to the unit, so you're fabricating brackets to the bungs rather than drilling and tapping an intercooler you just paid for. The SpeedFactory logo comes stenciled on the core face.

Picking the Right SpeedFactory Intercooler
SpeedFactory splits the line by power band first and tank configuration second. Get the power band right, then pick the tank style that suits how your charge piping has to run. Going up a tier for headroom you don't need just adds core thickness in front of your radiator.

Fitment
| Make | Application |
| Honda | Universal front mount, fits most chassis with modification |
| Acura | Universal front mount, fits most chassis with modification |
This is a universal intercooler, not a bolt-on kit for a specific chassis. SpeedFactory states it fits most Honda and Acura chassis with modification, and that word modification is doing real work. Measure before you order. The unit is 32.5 inches end to end including tanks, and that number, not the 24 inch core width, is what has to clear your core support and frame rails. On an EG, EK, DC2, EP3, or DC5, plan on trimming the bumper support and fabricating brackets. Nothing in the box bolts to your chassis.
What to Know Before You Buy
This is a bare intercooler. No charge piping, no couplers, no clamps, no brackets. If you're building a turbo kit from scratch, budget for all of it, because the intercooler is usually the cheapest part of getting boost from the turbo to the throttle body.
Be honest about your power goal before you pick a tier. If you're running a K20 at 400 to 500 wheel on a street car, the 300-500HP SpeedFactory unit is the smarter buy and it'll block less air to your radiator. The 600-850 band is where this one makes sense: a built K24, a sleeved B18, an E85 setup on a decent frame turbo. Intercooler ratings are flow guidelines rather than hard walls, so if you're at 580 and climbing, this is the right call.
Choose between the backdoor and side inlet versions based on your engine bay, not on performance. They use the same core and carry the same rating. The only question is where your piping needs to enter and exit. If you're running a K-series and want something purpose-shaped rather than universal, the 800HP Vertical Flow unit was drawn specifically around K-series bays and will save you fabrication time.
Two ordering notes worth acting on. SpeedFactory offers Vibrant Vanjen flanges welded on in place of the standard bead rolled ends, which makes charge pipe connections faster and more secure at high boost, but that has to be arranged before the unit is built. Call or email us first if you want it. Second, if you're replacing the radiator during the same build, SpeedFactory packages this core with their tucked radiator as a combo, which is worth pricing out against buying the two separately.
One last thing builders get wrong: a bigger front mount sitting directly in front of the radiator will raise coolant temps if your fan setup and ducting are marginal. Sort out your shrouding while the front end is apart.
