SpeedFactory B/D Series Bottom Mount Turbo Manifold

You've picked the turbo, you know roughly where it needs to sit, and now you need a manifold that won't crack a runner in a season. This is SpeedFactory Racing's bottom mount for B-series and D-series engines, built from schedule 40 stainless with a near-equal length runner design and machined steel flanges. It's a made-to-order piece with a real wait attached, so read the lead time section before you commit.

What It Is and Why It Works

Runners are 1.5 inch schedule 40 stainless, TIG welded and back purged. Back purging matters more than it sounds like it should. Shielding gas on the inside of the weld keeps the root from sugaring, which is what turns a pretty-looking weld into a brittle one that cracks after a few dozen heat cycles. On a manifold that lives between 1,400 and 1,800 degrees and gets slammed cold every time you shut the car off, that's the difference between a part you install once and a part you pull twice.

The cylinder head flange, wastegate flange, and turbine inlet flange are CNC machined from half inch 1018 steel plate, and every mating surface is machined flat. Thick flanges resist the warping that thin laser-cut plate does after a heat cycle or two, and flat surfaces are what let a gasket actually do its job instead of chasing a leak that moves every time you retorque it.

The near-equal length runner design is what SpeedFactory built this around. Getting the runners close in length means the exhaust pulses arrive at the turbine at more even intervals, which spools medium to large frame turbos quickly and keeps the powerband broad instead of peaky. SpeedFactory positions this as the manifold for medium to high power builds where you want torque and spool without giving up the top end, and calls it suitable for both road race and drag cars. That's a real distinction inside their own lineup, because their top mount is explicitly not recommended for street use and the forward-facing Outlaw manifold is a dedicated drag piece.

Picking Your Version

Two choices to make. Match the turbine flange to the turbo you already bought, and match the wastegate flange to the gate you actually own. Getting either wrong means an adapter, and adapters on a turbo manifold are how leaks start.

If you're on a D-series and hoping for a T4 Open version, SpeedFactory doesn't make one for this manifold. D-series gets the T3 configuration only. On the B-series side, the T3 covers most builds running a T3-frame turbo, and the T4 Open is there when you've stepped up to a larger frame and need the flow to match.

Fitment here is decided by the cylinder head, not the car. B-series covers B16, B18, and B20 heads across Civics, Integras, and swapped chassis. D-series covers the D15 and D16 family. There's no chassis-specific version because the manifold bolts to the head and everything downstream is your fabrication.

What to Know Before You Buy

This is made to order and the wait is real. SpeedFactory currently quotes 7 to 8 weeks of manufacturing time on manifolds. Nothing about that is a red flag, it's what happens when a part gets built by a person after you order it, but plan your build around it. If the car needs to run in six weeks, this isn't the manifold.

Do not heat wrap it. SpeedFactory's warranty covers welding defects only, applies to the original purchaser, and is explicitly void on any manifold that has been heat wrapped or that runs an improper downpipe or dumptube. Wrap traps heat against the tubing and accelerates cracking, which is why they wrote that in. Photos or video of the installed setup are required for any warranty claim, so if you want coverage, leave it bare and take pictures when it goes in. A turbo blanket does most of what people want from wrap without touching the manifold.

Give the downpipe and dumptube real thought, because they're part of the warranty language for a reason. A downpipe that hangs off the turbo with no support puts leverage right where the manifold is weakest, and every bump loads the joint. Support the exhaust properly and use a flex section.

The flanges are 1018, which is mild steel rather than stainless. That's normal for a manifold at this level and it's what makes half inch plate affordable, but it does mean the flange faces will pick up surface rust over time. It's cosmetic and it doesn't affect the seal.

Budget for the rest of the job. Turbine and wastegate gaskets, manifold studs and nuts rated for the heat, a wastegate that matches the flange you ordered, and downpipe fabrication. None of it comes in the box, and none of it is where you want to save money on a part that runs this hot.

Fits Honda B-series and D-series engines. The manifold bolts to the cylinder head, so any chassis running one of these engines works, including swaps.

Swapped Chassis

Fitment is decided by the cylinder head, not the car, so any B-swapped or D-swapped EF, EG, EK, EM, EH, EJ, DA, DB, or DC chassis works the same way. B-swapped Civics and CRXs make up a good share of the cars these end up on.

D-Series Does Not Mean D17

The D16 and D17 exhaust flanges are different bolt patterns, nine bolts versus five, and they don't interchange. If your car is a 2001-2005 Civic, the D-series version of this manifold will not bolt to your head, even though the engine carries a D-series designation. D15 and D16 only.

Clearance

This is a bottom mount design, so the turbo sits below the cylinder head. Check crossmember and ground clearance before ordering if the car is lowered.
