PRODUCT DETAILS

SpeedFactory Battery Location Fuel Cell EG EK DC

On a serious FWD drag build, the fuel system's job description changes: you want the weight over the drive wheels, you want the OEM tank and its forty feet of factory plumbing gone, and you want fuel delivery that doesn't cavitate when the car leaves hard. This SpeedFactory battery location fuel cell puts a 1.9 gallon TIG-welded cell right where the factory battery sits on your EG, EK, or DC, the same setup SpeedFactory runs on their own FWD Outlaw and AWD drag cars. Customers kept asking for the off-the-shelf version, and this is it.

What It Is and Why It Works

Moving fuel to the front of a FWD car shifts weight bias toward the drive wheels for launch grip, and deleting the rear tank, factory lines, and filler assembly takes real weight out of the car. The 1.9 gallon capacity is the deliberate part: enough volume to feed a thirsty turbo engine on methanol through a pass and back, without hauling a heavy cell around all day.

The details are where SpeedFactory's own track use shows. The feed is a female -12AN ORB fitting connected to an internal pickup tube that pulls clean, non-aerated fuel from the bottom of the cell, and the return is a female -10AN ORB aimed back at the pickup to keep the pump fed even when the level runs low. Because both ports are ORB threaded inserts, you adapt them to whatever line size your fuel system runs, and a worn or damaged fitting swaps out with a wrench instead of a trip to the welder. The feed sits centrally to clear the firewall hump, so a -12AN pre-filter bolts directly to the cell for a short, clean plumbing run. Up top, a black anodized 2.5 inch billet fill cap with an integrated high-flow rollover vent valve sits at the highest point of the cell: no vacuum or pressure buildup during a pass, no fuel spillage if the car ends up somewhere unplanned, and the anodizing keeps the cap threads from galling. A straight fill neck makes splash-and-dash refills between rounds quick, and you can eyeball the fuel level right down the neck. Pre-welded mounting tabs and a laser-cut SpeedFactory Racing badge finish it off.

SpeedFactory lists these as tested direct fitments, with other Honda and Acura chassis workable with modification. Pick the version by which side of the bay your battery tray occupies: LHD cars mount on the right side, RHD cars on the left.

What to Know Before You Buy

This is a competition part. It replaces your OEM fuel tank, and a fuel cell in the engine bay belongs on a drag car, not a street car, so plan the build accordingly. Before you order, read your sanctioning body's rulebook for your class, because fuel cell location, firewall, and shutoff requirements vary and tech inspectors care about exactly this component.

Budget the rest of the fuel system at the same time: the cell ships alone, so you'll need your pre-filter, lines, and fittings, and the ORB ports mean you size those to your pump and power level rather than being stuck at one line size. These cells are built to order, so allow up to two weeks of fabrication time before shipment when you're planning around a race date. And if your build calls for frame rail mounting instead of the battery tray spot, SpeedFactory makes a front location version of this same cell; if your battery has already moved to the trunk or been replaced by a lightweight unit, this location is exactly the real estate you freed up.
