Sparco Universal Steel Hood Pins - Pair

Hood pins do two jobs: they positively secure your hood so it can't fly up at speed, and they look the part on a track or show car. These Sparco steel pins are the robust, reliable kind, with a guided plug and click-lock design that holds the hood down firmly, used in place of the factory latch or alongside it. They work with a stock hood or a lightweight aftermarket one, and they come as a complete pair with all the hardware. Available in silver, blue, or red. One thing to know up front: installing these requires drilling, so plan for that.

Why Hood Pins

There are two reasons people fit them, and both are valid.

Security. A lightweight aftermarket hood (carbon or fiberglass) often doesn't engage the factory latch as securely as the OEM hood did, and a hood coming up at speed is catastrophic. Hood pins positively lock the hood down so it can't lift, whether you use them in place of the factory latch or as a backup alongside it. On a track car, many organizers require hood pins for exactly this reason.

The look. Even on a street car, hood pins give the front end a purposeful, motorsport-derived look, and the anodized color options let you tie them into your build. For a lot of owners, the look is part of the appeal alongside the function.

Robust, Complete Kit

These are steel pins with a guided plug and click-locking mechanism, so the hood seats and locks positively rather than rattling or working loose. The integrated (captive) locking pins stay with the assembly, so there's no loose pin to lose.

The set includes everything for the install: two posts, two latching plate/pin assemblies, scuff plates to protect the hood surface, and the mounting hardware. Nothing else to source, the kit is complete.

Read This: They Require Drilling

Important, because this is not a bolt-on part.

Installing these requires a custom install, including drilling holes in your hood and radiator core support to mount the posts and plates. It's a permanent modification, once the holes are drilled, they're drilled. It's a straightforward job if you're comfortable measuring and drilling precisely, but it has to be done carefully to line up correctly and not damage the hood.

If you're not comfortable drilling your own hood and core support, have a trusted mechanic or body shop fit them. Either way, know going in that this is a drill-required install, not a part that bolts to existing holes.

A Note On Color Fade

Being straight about the finish so there are no surprises.

These come in silver, blue, or red anodized finishes, and anodized colors will fade with UV exposure over time, especially the red. That's the nature of anodized aluminum in the sun, not a defect, and it's worth knowing if the pins will live on a car that's parked outside. Because fade is expected and normal, returns based on color fade aren't accepted, so choose with that in mind. Silver and blue hold up better than red to UV if long-term color stability matters to you.

This is for the owner running a lightweight aftermarket hood that needs positive securing, the track-day driver whose event requires hood pins, or anyone who wants the motorsport look up front, and who's comfortable with a drill-required install (or having a shop do it). Robust steel pins with click-locking, a complete kit with scuff plates and hardware, in silver, blue, or red. Just know they require drilling your hood and core support, and that anodized colors (especially red) fade in the sun over time. Pick your color, plan the install, and lock the hood down.
