Seibon TV-Style Double-Sided Carbon Fiber Hood - 2023-2026 Honda Civic Type R (FL5)
The FL5 is the best Type R Honda has built, and it's a car people already stop to look at. This hood is how you make them look longer. It's Seibon's TV-style in double-sided carbon, meaning finished 3K 2x2 twill on both faces rather than a nice top and a painted skeleton underneath. It vents to pull heat out of the bay, it takes real weight off the nose, and it shows up show-ready with no paint needed. If you're building an FL5 where every visible piece is intentional, this is the biggest single statement you can make.
Double-Sided Means The Underside Is Carbon Too
Worth understanding, because it's the main reason to choose this hood. Most carbon hoods, including plenty of good ones, have a finished carbon top and a fiberglass structure underneath in matte black enamel. That's fine, and nobody's looking at it. This one is double-sided, so the underside is finished carbon as well. On a car like the FL5, where the hood is going up at every meet and every track day paddock, that matters. There's no moment where someone leans in and sees the unfinished side of a very expensive panel. It's carbon all the way through, visually, and it photographs like it.
Read This First: Three Things You Need
These aren't fine print, and skipping any one of them will cost you the hood. Sort all three before install.
Hood pins are required. Carbon weighs a fraction of what your steel hood does, and the factory latch alone isn't enough to hold it reliably at speed. Pins are how this hood is meant to be secured, so budget for a set.
A heat shield is required. Sustained engine heat will damage carbon over time. Get proper heat shielding in place before you drive the car, especially on a turbocharged K20C1 that generates real underhood temperatures.
Don't reuse your stock hood struts. This one is expensive to learn the hard way. Your factory dampers and springs were calibrated for a heavy steel hood, and that force pushing on a light carbon panel can prevent the hood from closing correctly or crack it outright. Swap to hardware rated for a carbon hood.
Weight Off The Nose, Heat Out Of The Bay
Two functional gains here, and both matter on a car you actually drive hard. The steel hood is one of the heaviest panels on the FL5 and it's sitting right out over the front axle, so replacing it with carbon removes mass from the worst place to carry it. And the TV-style venting promotes heat extraction, which is genuinely useful on a turbo Type R. Trapped hot air raises intake temps and cooks everything under the hood, and after a few hard laps that's real. Giving it a path out helps the whole bay stay cooler.
Real Carbon From People Who've Done It For 20 Years
On a panel this large and this visible, the workmanship shows. Seibon holds a consistent 3K 2x2 twill weave across the entire hood without the pattern wandering or breaking, which is difficult on a piece this size and immediately obvious when someone gets it wrong. They run a high carbon-to-resin ratio, so it's genuinely stiff and strong rather than mostly resin with a thin skin of weave. And it arrives with a gloss finish that's show-ready out of the box, no paint, no prep. Every hood is inspected before it ships.
A Note On Surface Blemishes
Being straight with you, since it's the nature of hand-laid carbon. Occasional small surface blemishes can occur during manufacturing. This hood is show-ready as delivered, but if you ever decide to paint it, those come out during the normal sanding and primer prep you'd do on any body panel anyway. Running it bare carbon, just know this is a hand-made piece and slight variation is part of that.
Keep It Looking New
Two minutes a few times a year protects it. Treat the finish like paint, keep it clean, and put wax or a ceramic spray on it. UV is what eventually dulls and yellows a carbon clear coat, and the hood catches every bit of sun the car ever sees. Stay on top of it and it'll look as good in five years as it does the day you bolt it on.
Fits Your FL5
This hood fits the 2023-2026 Honda Civic Type R on the FL5 chassis. It mounts with your OEM installation hardware, and Seibon requires professional installation.
Who Should Run This Hood
This is for the FL5 owner who's building the car properly and wants the front end to say so. Track car chasing weight and underhood temps, show build where every panel is deliberate, or a daily you're proud to open the hood on, this is the piece people notice first. Get your pins, heat shield, and struts sorted, have it installed right, and give your Type R a hood worth the car underneath it.
