A fuel cell that can't breathe won't fill, and one that breathes into the cabin is a hazard. Radium's fuel cell vent kits give you the hose, filter, and routing to vent a cell properly: the 8AN kit with 1/2 inch hose for a standard-fill cell, and the 12AN kit with 3/4 inch hose for a quick-fill setup with a dry break and dump can, where air has to leave as fast as fuel comes in.

What It Is and Why It Works

Filling a cell pushes air out; driving it pulls air back in as the level drops. The vent line has to do both, and it has to end somewhere fuel vapor can't collect and any fuel that gets into the line can drain back. Each kit includes the vent hose sized to the fitting, a breather filter on the outboard end so the cell only pulls clean air, and Radium's routing instructions, which call for the line to terminate outside the cabin, away from the exhaust, with vertical loops that act as expansion chambers so slosh doesn't push fuel out the vent. The 8AN kit fits Radium's standard fuel cell surge tank vent fitting and works with a direct or remote filler. The 12AN kit is for cells using Radium's quick-fill hardware, where the 20-0462 DSV opens a large vent path during a dump-can fill.

What to Know Before You Buy

Follow the routing instructions; where the vent ends is the difference between a legal car and one that fails tech. Outside the cabin, away from the exhaust, with a loop above the cell's fill level so fuel drains back rather than out. The filter goes on the very end. Check your series' rules for a rollover valve; these kits are the vent, not the rollover protection, and most sanctioning bodies want one inline. If you're not sure whether you have a standard-fill or quick-fill cell, you have a standard-fill cell; quick fill is the dry-break dump-can system on cars that pit for fuel.
