Description
Radium Engineering Fuel Pump Hanger - 2023-2027 Honda Civic Type R (FL5)
When you start chasing real power on an FL5 Civic Type R, especially on E85 or with more boost, the factory in-tank fuel pump becomes the ceiling. This Radium Engineering fuel pump hanger replaces the entire factory in-tank pump assembly with a billet platform built to run one, two, or three high-flow aftermarket pumps, so you can supply the fuel volume a built or heavily tuned K20C1 demands. The FL5 is direct-injected, so this upgrades the low-pressure side of the system, feeding the factory high-pressure DI pump with far more volume than stock, which is exactly what's needed to support big power and the roughly 30% extra fuel that E85 requires. It drops into the factory tank location and reuses your OEM fuel level sensor, so your gauge still works like stock.
Choose Your Pump Configuration
The hanger is offered in two versions based on which aftermarket pump you're running, so pick the one that matches your pump:
- Part 20-1090: for the AEM 50-1220 and Deatschwerks DW440 (brushless) pumps.
- Part 20-1092: for the Ti Automotive Walbro F90000267, F90000274, and F90000285 pumps. This version also supports the Fuelab 49614 and Protec 11928 brushless pumps, though those two require a few additional Radium parts (a brushless pump base and the correct triple pump block with submersible hose and clamps) to adapt.
Either version is brushless-pump capable and ships with enough components to run 1, 2, or 3 pumps; on a single- or dual-pump setup, the extra parts simply go unused. Scaling from one pump to three lets the same hanger grow with your build as power goals climb.
Fuel Starvation Protection
The real engineering story here is keeping the pumps fed when the car is being driven hard. Under heavy cornering, braking, and acceleration, fuel sloshes away from the pump pickup, and a starved pump means a lean spike, which is how engines get hurt. Radium builds an integrated collector around the pump inlets and keeps it full from three separate sources: a one-piece anodized aluminum collector box that traps fuel around the inlets, three one-way fill valves in the bottom of the box (each flowing 355 LPH) that let fuel in but not back out, and the constant flow of fuel returning from the pressure regulator. Together they keep the collector full even during aggressive driving and at low tank levels, so the pumps always have fuel to pull.
Fittings
The merged pump outlet on the top plate is tapped for 10AN ORB (7/8"-14) female threads, and Radium supplies a low-profile 8AN male fitting to connect to your aftermarket fuel line. The return inlet is tapped for 6AN ORB (9/16"-18) female threads, with a low-profile SAE quick-connect fitting provided to tie into the factory feed line, which gets repurposed as the return. All the fittings are machined low enough to clear the surrounding area under the car.
High-Current Electrical
Brushless pumps pull serious current, and this is where a lot of hangers cut corners. Instead of compact multi-pin bulkhead connectors that struggle with that load, Radium uses custom stainless steel electrical studs that handle the high current cleanly, with an anti-rotation feature so the terminals can't spin loose. The connections are serviceable, hermetically sealed, and impervious to standard and exotic fuels, the in-tank wiring is insulated with chemically resistant ETFE, and non-conductive anodized aluminum acorn nuts cap the studs to prevent any accidental short. It's built for the demands of running big pumps reliably in-tank.
What You'll Need to Complete the Install
Read this before you buy, because the hanger alone doesn't plumb your car. A couple of components are required to run it:
- An external fuel pressure regulator is required (included in Radium's matching fuel hanger plumbing kit).
- A low-micron external fuel filter is required (also included in the plumbing kit).
- A single-pump setup can reuse the OEM fuel pump wiring, though upgrading that wiring is recommended so the pump gets full voltage and flows to its potential.
- If you run additional pumps, each one must have its own dedicated relay and fuse. Universal fuel pump wiring kits are available separately, one per pump.
In short, plan on the matching plumbing kit (regulator, filter, lines, and fittings) and the correct wiring to turn this hanger into a complete, running fuel system.
