Radium Engineering Catch Can Petcock Drain Kit, 4AN ORB - Part #20-0024

Draining a Radium catch can means unscrewing the canister, and on a can mounted under an engine cover or behind an intake pipe that's a job with a rag and a lot of swearing. The 20-0024 petcock kit threads a barb into the can's 4AN ORB drain port, runs a hose to wherever you can reach, and puts a ball valve on the end, so draining the can is opening a valve over a cup.

What It Is and Why It Works

Every Radium catch can has a 4AN ORB port in the bottom for exactly this. The kit's anodized aluminum 4AN ORB to barb fitting seals in that port on an O-ring with no sealant. Six feet of 1/4 inch high-temperature rubber hose runs from the barb to a spot you can get to with the car on the ground, and a nylon 1/4 inch barb mini ball valve on the end holds it closed until you want it open. Because the can is pressure-sealed, the valve being closed keeps the can sealed; open it, the can drains by gravity, close it, done. It's the difference between draining the can every oil change and draining it whenever you think of it.

What to Know Before You Buy

Route the hose downhill the whole way. A loop that rises above the can's bottom holds oil and the can never fully drains. End the valve somewhere you can hold a cup under it without lying on the ground, and keep it away from the exhaust and anything that moves; nylon valves and rubber hose don't like headers. Zip tie the valve so it can't swing into the belt. On a can that's manifold-referenced, make sure the valve is closed before you start the car; an open petcock is a vacuum leak. Lube the ORB O-ring before threading the fitting in.
