Radium Engineering Fluid Lock Catch Can Kits for Civic Type R FK8 and FL5 - Part #20-0825-FL / #20-0424-FL
The K20C1 pushes a lot of oil vapor through its crankcase vent under boost, and on a Type R that ends up in the turbo inlet, the intercooler, and the intake valves. Radium's catch can kits for the Type R are the bolt-in fix: a CCV side can that mounts to the passenger motor mount under the factory engine cover and catches what the crankcase vent throws at wide open throttle, and a PCV side can on the passenger firewall that catches what the PCV valve pulls at cruise. Both use Radium's Fluid Lock cans, bolt to factory holes, and keep the emissions system closed.
What It Is and Why It Works
The FK8 and FL5 vent the crankcase two ways. Under boost the PCV valve is closed and everything leaves through the crankcase vent line to the turbo inlet, which is the CCV side. At idle and cruise, manifold vacuum pulls through the PCV valve, which is the PCV side. Each Radium kit puts a can inline on one of those paths with a two-stage baffle and an integrated condenser that knocks oil and fuel vapor out of the airflow before it reaches the intake, then returns the clean air to where the factory sent it, so nothing vents to atmosphere. The cans are Radium's Fluid Lock design, 7 fluid ounces, with a patented mechanism that stops an overfilled can from pushing its contents back into the intake, which is what a neglected catch can does. They have 10AN ORB ports, a 4AN ORB drain port, and an O-ring sealed dipstick so you can check the level without pulling anything apart. The crankcase vent line on the CCV kit runs over the engine in temperature-resistant metal tubing with billet clamps to the turbo inlet pipe.

What to Know Before You Buy
If you only buy one, buy the CCV side. That's the path that flows under boost, and it's where the oil that fouls the intercooler and intake valves comes from on a turbo K20C1. The PCV side matters more on a car that spends its life at part throttle, and Radium's answer is to run both; the two cans work independently. The Fluid Lock mechanism means a full can stops catching rather than dumping into the intake, so check the dipstick every oil change and drain it. Radium's petcock drain kit (20-0024) threads into the 4AN ORB drain port and lets you empty the can with a valve instead of unscrewing it, which is worth the money on the CCV can under the engine cover. Neither kit vents to atmosphere, so they pass a visual at the track and don't stink up the cabin.
