Pull the factory wing off a Type R and you've got mounting holes in your hatch. The Gasket Is Doing Real Work

Easy to overlook, and it's the difference between a clean delete and a wet trunk.

Removing the wing leaves holes through your hatch. Anything covering them has to seal against water, and a hatch flexes and vibrates constantly while getting hit by rain, pressure washers, and everything the road throws up.

The closed cell EPDM gaskets compress between the plate and the hatch to create a weather-tight seal. Closed cell matters here because it doesn't absorb water the way open cell foam does, so it won't hold moisture against your paint or degrade into something that stops sealing after a season.

Plenty of people delete a wing with tape or a generic plug and spend the next year chasing a damp trunk. This is the version that doesn't, and it protects the hatch structure as well as the cabin.

Sculpted, Not Flat

The upper surface is shaped rather than being a flat cover over the holes.

That's what makes the delete look intentional. A flat plate reads as something covering an absence, while a profiled surface following the hatch contours reads as how the car could have been drawn. From behind, the rear end looks complete rather than stripped.

Each version is shaped to its own chassis, so the FK8 plates follow FK8 body lines and the FL5 plates follow the FL5's. Black hard anodized finish keeps it durable and understated, and anodizing holds up in sun and weather far better than paint on a part exposed like this.

Why People Delete The Wing

Three reasons, all legitimate.

The look. The Type R wing is polarizing by design. Some owners love it, some want the performance without announcing it to every parking lot. A delete gives you a considerably more subtle car.

Drag reduction. For high speed and racing applications where downforce matters less than top speed, removing the wing is a real aerodynamic decision rather than a cosmetic one. There's a small weight saving along with it.

Reversibility. Since this bolts into factory locations with no modification, the wing goes back on whenever you want. That matters at resale, where the next buyer might feel differently.

Know What You're Giving Up

Being straight, since this is an aero part.

The factory wing generates real downforce at the rear. Removing it changes the car's aerodynamic balance, and at sustained high speed the rear will feel less planted than it did.

On the street at legal speeds you won't notice. On a fast track with high speed corners, you will, and that's worth thinking about before committing if the car sees serious circuit use.

Want More Wing, Not Less?

Basic Hand Tools, Nothing Permanent

Each plate bolts into the factory wing mounting locations using the supplied hardware. On the FK8 the plates install in place of the factory wing risers, and on the FL5 they mount directly to the hatch.

Either way there's no cutting, no drilling, and nothing permanent. Straightforward with basic tools, and reversible if you change your mind or sell the car.
