PRODUCT DETAILS

PowerStop Z23 Honda Civic Brake Pads

Your Civic uses Honda pads in the factory calipers. When those pads glaze, get thin, or start clicking the wear tabs, this PowerStop Z23 is the carbon-fiber ceramic honda civic brake pads for that job.

This page has two SKUs. Z23-1878 is one rear axle for a 2016-2021 Civic, Si and Type R included. Z23-914 is one front axle for a 282mm Civic or Accord. Same Z23 ceramic. Different pad. Pick the axle that matches the rotor you are standing in front of.

What It Is and Why It Works

Honda's daily pads on these cars dust the wheels, and they fade if you lean on them from highway speed. PowerStop builds Z23 as a daily sport ceramic with carbon fiber in the mix, so you get more bite from cold and more heat than a stock Honda pad. You give up a little of that factory silence.

Both numbers use the same carbon-fiber ceramic formula, chamfered and slotted faces, dual-layer rubberized shims, and a powder-coated backing plate, all per manufacturer. Stainless clips and high-temp lubricant come in each box. The split is the shape. 1878 is the 10th-gen rear. 914 is the 282mm front. If you want the quieter daily on the same rear shape, that is PowerStop 17-1878. If you have been wanting a track pad, this is not it.

Z23-1878 is the rear on every 10th-gen Civic we merchandise, Si and Type R included. There is no 2021 Civic Si in the US. A 2022 Civic is 11th-gen. Z23-914 is the 282mm front. It also covers a 2003-2017 Accord that still has that 11.1 in rotor. It does not fit a 10th-gen Si front or a Type R front. If you are not sure, measure the rotor: 10.2 / 11.1 / 12.0 inches at the rear is 1878. 11.1 inches at the front is 914. 12.3 inches is the Si front. 13.8 inches is the Type R front.

What to Know Before You Buy

Pick the axle first. Rear on a 2016-2021 Civic is 1878, even on Si and Type R. Front on a 282mm Civic or Accord is 914. A 10th-gen Si or Type R front is a different pad. Do not guess from the year alone.

PowerStop wants a real bed-in on Z23. Five moderate-to-aggressive stops from 40 mph down to 10 without coming to a complete stop, then five more from 35 down to 5, then drive to let them cool. The resin smell is normal. On a 10th-gen Civic the rear calipers are electronic parking brake. Put the car in maintenance mode before you compress that rear piston.

Use the stainless clips that come in the box. The factory abutment clips rust into the bracket, and that is most of the rattle people blame on ceramic. While the caliper is off, look at the rotor. A fresh pad on a scored rotor will make noise and chew itself. We like Z23 on a Civic that still sees on-ramps and a weekend back road. Same ceramic on both axles. Different shape. Order the one that matches the rotor in your hand.

One upper hose. Pull the old hose and match both necks: 1.25 in ID, about 21 in of molded length, extra arch for intake room. Shops use 21229 that way on a DC5 or EP3. This does not fit a stock D17 or IMA 7th-gen Civic, an 8th-gen Civic, or a DC2 Integra. A 2001-2005 Civic only makes sense if you are running a K-series swap, not a stock D17. Do not order this for a stock non-Si Civic.
