PowerStop Z16 Honda Civic Brake Pads (12-15 Civic)
The factory fronts on a 9th-gen Civic are not one size. HF, DX, 2012 EX/EX-L/LX, and the later LX/SE manuals use 10.3 inch (262mm) single-piston rotors on the FB sedan and FG coupe. When those Honda 45022-TR3-A02 pads glaze or hit the wear tabs, you need Honda Civic brake pads for that 262mm setup, not the 11.8 inch Si kit and not the 11.1 inch 2013-2015 EX package. PowerStop 16-1578 is the Z16 Evolution ceramic front set that drops into that 262mm caliper. It is the no-hardware line. 17-1578 is the same ceramic shape with the stainless clip kit.
What It Is and Why It Works
PowerStop builds Z16 as a daily ceramic replacement, not a track pad. The 16-1578 set uses a low-dust ceramic formula PowerStop validated in Los Angeles city traffic, chamfered and slotted faces, dual-layer rubberized shims, and a thermally scorched surface so the first heat cycles bed faster than a raw blank, all per manufacturer. Positive-mold construction is the factory-style process they use to keep wear even. Installation hardware is not in the box. That is the whole point of the Z16 line versus 17-1578, which is the same ceramic shape with the clip kit. PowerStop's own pad-options page says Z17 is the Z16 compound plus application-specific abutment clips. If your 9th-gen clips are still clean, this is the pad-only path. If they are rusted in the bracket, skip this SKU and buy 17-1578.
This is a pad set, not a rotor kit and not a hardware kit. You get one front axle of ceramic pads for the 262mm FB/FG package. 2012 DX, EX, EX-L, HF, and LX all take 16-1578. 2013-2015 HF stays on this pad. 2013-2015 LX and 2015 SE stay on it when PowerStop lists them as manual. Civic Si is 300mm (11.8 inch), Honda 45022-TR7-A03, and a different PowerStop number (16-914). 2013-2015 EX and EX-L stepped up to 282mm (11.1 inch) and Honda 45022-T2F-A01. That is also 16-914, not this SKU. There is no US 9th-gen Type R and no Integra in these years. Hybrid and Natural Gas (Civic GX / CNG) use other Honda pad numbers and are not on the 16-1578 catalogs we checked. Those cars are 16-1608 / 17-1608, which we skipped. If you already drive the car hard, Z23-1578 has more initial bite on the same shape. If you track it, this compound is the wrong tool.

What to Know Before You Buy
Look at your clips before you click buy. The stock abutment clips on these 9th-gen cars rust in the bracket, and that is usually the rattle people blame on the pads. 16-1578 does not include replacements. If the clips are rusty, pitted, or missing a finger, buy 17-1578 instead. That is the same Z16 ceramic shape with the stainless hardware. Reusing junk clips under a new ceramic pad is how you get a squeal that never beds out. If the clips are still shiny and the pad slides freely in the bracket, 16-1578 is the honest pad-only buy.
Give them a real bed-in. PowerStop scorches the face for a faster break-in, but you still want a set of moderate stops from 30 to 40 mph before you lean on them from highway speed. A little squeal on the first heat cycle is normal. If it keeps screaming after a couple hundred miles, the rotor face or the rusty stock clips are the problem, not the ceramic. If the 262mm rotors are grooved or below spec, replace them with the pads. Fresh ceramic on a junk rotor just makes noise and eats the new compound. While the calipers are off, look at the fluid. Honda specs DOT 3 on these cars. If it is dark, flush it. A front pad job on this Civic is about 1 to 1.5 hours if you have done one before, not a transmission-out afternoon.
Pick the line honestly. Z16 is the daily ceramic without hardware. 17-1578 is the same pad if you need new clips. Z23-1578 is the step up if you want more bite and will live with a bit more noise. Do not order 16-1578 for an Si or a 2013-2015 EX. Check the rotor diameter if you are unsure: 10.3 inches is this pad, 11.1 inches is the later EX / LX-auto package, 11.8 inches is Si.
