HRC Formula R Oil Change Kit - 0W-20 & 5W-20
Everything for a complete oil change in one box. Five quarts of Honda's current full synthetic, the correct filter, and a fresh drain plug with washer. No working out part numbers, no discovering you're a quart short, and no reusing a crush washer that's already been crushed.
Why A Kit Rather Than Separate Orders
Oil changes are the most common job anyone does on their own car, and they're also the one where people cut a corner they shouldn't.
The usual version is buying oil and a filter, then reusing the drain plug washer because it looked fine. That washer is designed to deform once, sealing against the pan as it crushes. Reused, it doesn't seal the same way, and you get a slow weep that either stains your driveway or has you overtightening the plug to stop it.
Overtightening a drain plug into an aluminum pan is how people end up with stripped threads and a repair costing hundreds. A fresh washer every time prevents that, and it costs almost nothing.
This kit includes one, along with a new drain plug, so there's nothing left to improvise.
0W-20 Or 5W-20?
Check your owner's manual or your oil cap, because Honda specifies one and they aren't interchangeable.
The first number is cold viscosity. A 0W-20 flows more readily at low temperature, which means faster circulation on a cold start. A 5W-20 is slightly thicker cold. Both behave the same once the engine is warm.
Most modern Hondas call for 0W-20. Some older applications specify 5W-20. Go by what your engine requires rather than assuming thinner is better.
Confirm Your Filter Fits
The kit ships with the 15400-RTA-A01 filter or equivalent, which covers a large portion of the Honda and Acura lineup but not all of it.
Worth a quick check against your car before ordering, since Honda uses more than one filter across their range and the wrong one won't thread on. If you're not sure, the part number on your current filter is the fastest way to confirm.
About The Oil
HRC Formula R is what replaced Honda's Ultimate Full Synthetic, developed with Phillips 66, the same partner running oil in Honda's IMSA program. It meets the current GF-7A standard, a step up from the GF-6 that came before, along with API SQ.
GF-7A arrived in 2025 because small turbocharged direct-injected engines broke what came before it. The headline addition is low-speed pre-ignition protection, which matters on a 1.5T, 2.0T, or K20C where LSPI can destroy a piston in a single event. The standard also tightens wear limits and improves protection for turbochargers, timing chains, and valvetrains.
Change It On Time
The advice worth more than anything else on this page.
Modern Hondas use a maintenance minder that calculates interval based on how you drive, and it's genuinely good. The problem is people stretching past it, or assuming their driving is normal when it isn't.
Short trips, stop and go traffic, towing, track days, and cold climates all count as severe service. A turbocharged engine sitting hot after shutdown is harder on oil than a naturally aspirated one that cooled gradually. If that describes your driving, change it sooner than the minder suggests.
Good oil run too long protects worse than adequate oil changed on schedule.
