Mishimoto Performance Aluminum Radiator (MMRAD-BB2-92) - 1992-1996 Honda Prelude (H22/H23)

The BB Prelude, especially an H22 VTEC, is a car people actually drive hard, and the factory radiator wasn't built for it, or for being 30 years old. This Mishimoto radiator fixes both problems: a thick dual-core aluminum unit that holds a big 2.39 gallons of coolant, sheds heat far better than stock, and won't crack like the aging plastic-tank original. It's a direct fit for the S, Si, and VTEC models, and it's the cooling upgrade whether you track the car or just want it reliable for years more.

Why Swap The Stock One

Two reasons, and both apply to a car like this.

If your Prelude's showing its age, the factory radiator's plastic end tanks crack and leak like any plastic-tank radiator this old, so this is the permanent fix, welded aluminum with nothing to go brittle.

If you drive it hard, and H22 owners do, it's about capacity. The H-series makes real power and real heat, and the stock radiator runs out of margin when you're working it on a hot day or a track session. This radiator's extra coolant volume and better dissipation keep temps in check when you're leaning on the engine.

A Big, Thick Dual Core

The capacity here is the standout.

It's a two-row, 2" thick brazed aluminum core with TIG-welded end tanks, and it holds 2.39 gallons, a lot of coolant, noticeably more than the stock radiator. That thick core and high capacity give the system real thermal mass and a big increase in heat-shedding surface area, which is exactly what an H22 wants when it's hot.

Aluminum also tolerates heat and pressure better than the factory plastic-and-aluminum unit and dissipates heat more efficiently, so both the size and the material work in your favor. Polished end tanks clean up the engine bay while they're at it.

The included 1.3 bar high-pressure cap raises the coolant's boiling point for more margin before the system vents, which pairs well with the big core on a track car. A magnetic drain plug catches metal debris in the system before it circulates through the pump and engine.

Pair It With The Racing Thermostat

The natural companion for the cooling system.

This radiator is a perfect match for the Prelude racing thermostat. The radiator gives you the capacity to shed heat; a lower-temp racing thermostat opens earlier to start circulating coolant to that bigger radiator sooner, so the two work together to keep temps down on a hard-driven car. If you're building the cooling system for track use, they're the pairing to do together.

Manual Transmission Only

Important fitment note, so check before ordering.

This radiator is for manual transmission cars. It doesn't have the integrated transmission cooler that automatics need. If your Prelude is an automatic, you'll need Mishimoto's universal transmission cooler kit alongside this radiator to cool the trans fluid.

For a manual car it's a direct fit as-is. For an auto, plan for the separate trans cooler.

Fitment

1992-1996 Honda Prelude S, Si, and VTEC (BB1/BB2, H22A1/H23A1)

Part number MMRAD-BB2-92. Manual transmission (automatics require a separate trans cooler). Direct fit, factory location, no modification.

Who Should Grab This

This is for the BB Prelude owner who tracks or hard-drives the car and wants cooling that keeps up, and for anyone whose factory radiator is cracking at the plastic tanks. A thick dual-core aluminum unit holding 2.39 gallons, welded tanks that won't fail like the original, a high-pressure cap and magnetic drain plug included, and polished tanks that look right in the bay. Confirm you're running a manual, pair it with the racing thermostat if you're building for track, and keep the H-series cool.

Fits: 1992-1996 Honda Prelude S/Si/VTEC (BB1/BB2, H22A1/H23A1), manual transmission. Part number: MMRAD-BB2-92. Construction: dual-core (2-row) 2" brazed aluminum, TIG-welded polished end tanks. Capacity: 2.39 gal. Includes: 1.3 bar high-pressure cap, magnetic drain plug. Install: direct fit, factory location. Note: manual only (auto needs a separate trans cooler). Warranty: Mishimoto lifetime.
