Mishimoto Performance Intercooler - 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T & Si

Honda's turbo Civic makes good power until you lean on it, and then the stock intercooler gives up. It's a tube-and-fin unit with plastic end tanks, fine for normal driving but quick to heat-soak when you push the car or run a tune, and once it's saturated, intake temps climb and the ECU pulls power to protect the engine. This Mishimoto bar-and-plate intercooler fixes that with more than double the core volume. Available as the intercooler alone, or as a full kit with upgraded piping, in your choice of finishes.

Intercooler Only Or Full Kit?

Two ways to buy, depending on how far you're taking it.

Intercooler only is the core upgrade. It drops in with your stock piping and does the heavy lifting on cooling, 102% more core volume and a 20°F drop in outlet temps on the stock tune. It's the sensible starting point, and you can add the piping later. Available in black or silver.

Full kit adds Mishimoto's upgraded piping to the intercooler, bigger diameter, smoother bends, and better flow for tuned applications. The piping comes in wrinkle black or Rallye Red, paired with your intercooler finish. This is the complete setup if you're tuning the car or want the whole charge path upgraded at once.

Both configs are the same intercooler; the kit just adds the pipes. Start with the intercooler and add piping later, or do it all together.

102% More Core, Bar-And-Plate

The cooling comes from a much larger, much stronger core.

The stock tube-and-fin core with plastic end tanks is a heat trap, it saturates and its plastic tanks are a weak point under boost. Mishimoto's is all-aluminum bar-and-plate, which holds up to boost and heat cycling and sheds heat far better. The core has 102% more volume and 97% more fin surface area than stock, which is what lets it keep pulling heat out of the charge air instead of saturating.

The real-world result: outlet air temps drop 20°F on the stock tune, and up to 42°F with a performance tune, where the car's making more heat and the bigger core has more to do. Lower charge temps mean the ECU holds its power instead of pulling timing, which is what you feel as consistent power run after run instead of fade.

The Piping Upgrade (Full Kit)

For the kit buyers, the piping overhaul matters as much as the core on a tuned car.

The factory piping is a plastic-and-rubber combination with restrictive diameters, Mishimoto replaced it with mandrel-bent aluminum and 5-layer fiber-embedded silicone couplers. The piping steps up from 42mm to 55mm on both the hot and cold sides, a 30% increase, and the bends were opened up to let the charge air flow more directly through the system.

Bigger, smoother piping flows more and supports more boost, which is exactly what a tuned 1.5T wants, and the aluminum and silicone won't deteriorate or blow off the way the factory rubber can. If you're running a tune or planning to, the piping removes a restriction the stock setup imposes.

The Gains Scale With Your Tune

Straight on the power, since it depends on how far you go.

On the stock tune, the full kit adds up to 4 whp and 8 wtq, modest, as intercooler gains on a stock tune usually are, because the main job of an intercooler is holding power consistent, not making peak numbers. Add a tune and the gain grows to around 11 whp and 9 wtq, because a tune leans on the cooling the bigger core provides.

The honest way to think about it: the real value of this intercooler is consistency, holding your power through repeated runs and hot days where the stock unit fades, plus the headroom to support a tune. The peak numbers are a bonus; the heat-soak fix is the point.

Pick Your Colors

The intercooler comes in black or silver, and on the full kit, the piping in wrinkle black or Rallye Red. All combinations perform identically, so mix and match to your build, subtle all-black, or the Rallye Red piping for a pop of color behind the bumper. Pick the pair that suits your car.

CARB-Legal, Clean Install

Both the intercooler and the full kit are CARB compliant (EO# D-759-12), so they're 50-state legal and pass a visual emissions inspection, which matters in California and other checked states. It's a direct bolt-on with no cutting. One install note: the T-bolt clamps are torqued to spec (27 in-lbs recommended, 35 in-lbs max), don't over-torque them.

Fitment

2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T (EX, EX-T, Touring) and Si (L15B7)

Select intercooler only (black or silver) or full kit (adds wrinkle black or Rallye Red piping). Direct fit, CARB EO# D-759-12.

Who Should Grab This

This is for the 1.5T or Si Civic owner who drives the car hard, tunes it, or has felt the power fade as the stock intercooler heat-soaks. A bar-and-plate core with 102% more volume, outlet temps down 20°F stock (42°F tuned), and a full piping upgrade available for tuned builds. Start with the intercooler on stock piping or go full kit, pick your colors, and stop losing power to heat soak. It's CARB-legal, so you can run it anywhere.

Fits: 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T (EX/EX-T/Touring) and Si (L15B7). Core: bar-and-plate, 102% more volume, 97% more fin area vs stock. Cooling: outlet temps down 20°F (stock tune), up to 42°F (tuned). Gains: up to 4 whp / 8 wtq stock tune, up to 11 whp / 9 wtq tuned. Piping (full kit): mandrel-bent aluminum, 42mm to 55mm (+30%), 5-layer silicone couplers. Finishes: intercooler black or silver; piping wrinkle black or Rallye Red. Emissions: CARB legal, EO# D-759-12. Install: direct bolt-on. Warranty: Mishimoto lifetime.
