Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can - 2018-2022 Honda Accord 1.5T & 2.0T

Every turbo engine pushes a little oil vapor back through the intake as blow-by, and on a direct-injection engine like the Accord's 1.5T and 2.0T, that oil coats the intake valves and bakes into carbon over time. That carbon chokes airflow, hurts performance and economy, and eventually needs an expensive cleaning. A catch can intercepts the oil vapor before it reaches the valves. This Mishimoto baffled can does exactly that, a clean, serviceable way to keep the oil out of your intake. Fits both the 1.5T and 2.0T, in black or red.

Why A Catch Can Matters On These Engines

The problem it solves is real, and it's worse on direct injection.

As the engine runs, combustion pressure pushes a mix of oil vapor and fuel past the piston rings into the crankcase, that's blow-by. The PCV system routes those vapors back into the intake to be burned, which is fine for emissions but means oily vapor is constantly passing over your intake valves.

On older port-injected engines, fuel sprayed onto the valves washed that oil off. Direct-injection engines like the Accord's 1.5T and 2.0T spray fuel straight into the cylinder, so nothing cleans the valves, and the oil from blow-by bakes onto them as carbon. Over tens of thousands of miles that carbon builds up, restricting airflow and costing you power and efficiency, and the fix is a walnut-blasting cleaning that isn't cheap. A catch can is the preventive measure: it separates the oil out of the blow-by vapor and traps it in the can, so it never reaches the valves in the first place.

How It Separates The Oil

The can is built to actually pull the oil out, not just sit in the line.

It mounts inline with the PCV system, and inside, a 50-micron bronze filter and an internal air diverter work together, the diverter increases air turbulence to help the oil droplets drop out of the vapor, and the filter catches them. The oil collects in the bottom of the can while clean air continues on to the intake. It's a baffled design, so it separates far more effectively than an empty can would.

An integrated check valve keeps boost pressure from reaching the can and crankcase, which prevents leaks and keeps the system working correctly under boost. And by keeping oil out of the intake charge, it helps maintain proper octane in the combustion chamber, reducing the detonation risk that oil contamination can introduce.

Built Right, Easy To Service

The construction is proper, and crucially, it's serviceable, which matters because a catch can only works if you empty it.

The can is patented billet 6061 aluminum, sealed with Viton O-rings that hold up to heat and oil, with CNC-machined barbed fittings for a secure connection to the lines. Both the can and the filter are fully serviceable, you unthread the can, dump the collected oil, clean the filter, and reinstall. The 3 oz capacity gives you reasonable intervals between emptying.

The kit includes pre-molded hoses shaped for the Accord's engine bay and an application-specific bracket that mounts the can somewhere you can actually reach it to service it. It installs in under 30 minutes.

Check It Regularly, Especially At First

One thing to know about living with a catch can.

After installing, check the can's contents every 1,000 miles until you learn how fast yours fills, accumulation varies with temperature and how you drive. The important rule: don't let the oil level rise above the internal baffle. Once you know your car's rate, you can settle into a regular emptying interval. It's a small maintenance habit, and it's the whole point, the oil in the can is oil that didn't end up on your valves.

Fits Both Engines, Black Or Red

This is offered for both the 1.5T (L15B7) and the 2.0T (K20C4) Accord, so pick the version for your engine. The bracket comes in wrinkle black or Rallye Red, both identical in function, so choose the finish for your bay.

If you plan to keep your turbo Accord for the long haul, a catch can is cheap insurance against the intake-valve carbon that direct-injection engines build up. This one separates the oil out with a baffled, filtered design, keeps it out of your intake, and is fully serviceable so you can actually maintain it. Pick your engine and bracket color, install it in half an hour, and protect the top end from blow-by.
