Lifeline Zero 275 Lightweight FIA 8865 Fire Suppression System (LYF-105-001-019)

This is the lightest FIA 8865-2015 fire system ever made. At 2.7kg for the filled cylinder and under 3.5kg for the complete system with all ancillaries, the Zero 275 is Lifeline's answer for competitors running to the demanding 8865 standard who refuse to carry a gram more than they have to. Compact enough to package almost anywhere, and engineered to lower your center of gravity while it's at it.

The Lightest 8865 System Available

Weight is the entire story here, so it's worth being specific.

The FIA 8865-2015 standard is the more demanding certification for plumbed-in fire systems, and systems meeting it have traditionally been heavier and bulkier. The Zero 275 breaks that: a 2.7kg filled cylinder and a complete system under 3.5kg, which makes it the lightest and most compact 8865-2015 extinguisher currently available.

The cylinder is 125mm in diameter and 308mm long, small enough to install and package where a bulkier 8865 system simply wouldn't fit. In a serious competition car where weight and mounting space are both precious, being the lightest and smallest option in its certification class is a genuine competitive advantage, not just a spec.

What A Plumbed-In System Actually Does

Worth being clear and honest about, because it's important to understand what you're buying.

A plumbed-in fire system is designed to delay the development of a fire and give the driver more time to get out of the car. It is not designed to put the fire out or prevent the car from burning. That's the realistic purpose of any system in this class, and Lifeline states it plainly.

Understanding that shapes how you think about it: this is life-safety equipment first, buying you critical seconds to exit, and it happens to often save the car as a secondary benefit. The point is your safety, not the vehicle's.

It Lowers Your Center Of Gravity

This is the clever part, and it's rare for a safety system to offer a performance benefit.

Lifeline used advanced fluid dynamics analysis in developing the Zero 275, and the result is remarkable efficiency: only 0.3kg of Monnex is needed for the cockpit. That efficiency lets the cockpit nozzle be floor mounted, which puts what weight there is down low in the car.

A floor-mounted nozzle means the system contributes to lowering the vehicle's overall center of gravity rather than adding weight up high. On a car built to compete, every bit of mass carried low is mass working for you in the corners. A fire system that helps your CoG instead of hurting it is a genuine engineering achievement.

Coverage Where It Matters

How the system actually protects the two critical areas.

The cockpit nozzle discharges a dry powder suppressant that floods the cockpit, mounted centrally in the vehicle with the correct orientation marked on the nozzle. That's what buys the driver time.

The three engine nozzles allow two to be positioned on either side of the engine and a third to specifically target likely ignition sources. That arrangement, combined with ColdFire suppressant, gives proper coverage across the engine bay from both sides while keeping suppressant volume, and therefore weight, down compared to previous 8865 systems.

8865 Certification At A Sensible Cost

Worth knowing, since 8865 systems have a reputation for being expensive.

The efficient design and intelligent material choices that make the Zero 275 light also make it affordable. Lifeline has brought the cost of this 8865 system down to be comparable with FIA Technical List 16 systems, which is notable, since 8865 is the higher standard and has historically commanded a significant price premium.

Homologated To FIA 8865-2015

The certification detail that matters for eligibility.

The Zero 275 range (UK Patent Application No. GB1813948.5) is homologated to the FIA 8865-2015 standard, extensively tested by Lifeline, the FIA, and BSI to meet its requirements.

Confirm which standard your sanctioning body requires before ordering. Some series require 8865 specifically, some accept the lesser Technical List 16 certification, and the two aren't interchangeable for eligibility. If you only need TL16, Lifeline's Zero 360 range covers that at a lower entry point.

Service And Refills

Important for ownership, since an FIA system is only legal while it's in certification.

These systems run on a two-year certification cycle, after which the system must be serviced to remain valid for competition. The bottle is refillable and serviceable: you send it back to Lifeline, they service and recharge it, and it comes back certified for another cycle rather than needing to be replaced outright.

If your existing Zero 275 is past its two-year certification, select the Service option rather than buying a new system. That gets your bottle refilled and re-certified at a fraction of the cost of a replacement. Buy new if you're outfitting a car for the first time; choose Service to keep an existing system competition-legal.

Installation Notes

A few things to get right, since a mandated safety system has to be installed correctly to be legal and effective.

The power pack must be within the driver or co-driver's reach, typically on the center of the dash or center console, so it can be triggered from the seat. The cylinder mounts transversely inside the safety cell or roll cage, positioned away from anywhere it could be damaged, abraded, or exposed to excessive heat.

Critically for tech inspection: the homologation label and FIA hologram must remain visible for scrutineering. Mount the cylinder so those can be seen, or you'll have problems passing tech.

Because every race car is different, Lifeline provides best-practice guidance rather than exact placement, and professional installation is recommended. If your car's layout won't follow the standard guidelines, Lifeline Technical can advise.

Who Should Grab This

This is for the serious competitor whose series requires FIA 8865-2015, and who wants the lightest, most compact system that meets it. The lightest 8865 cylinder made, a floor-mounted cockpit nozzle that lowers your center of gravity, efficient engine bay coverage, and a cost that's finally comparable to the lesser standard. Confirm your series requires 8865, have it installed properly with the hologram visible for tech, and carry the minimum weight the certification allows.
