Innovative Mounts 94-97 Accord H22 F20B Swap Mounts

Dropping an H22A, an H23A or an F20B into a 94-97 Accord is one of the cleanest power upgrades left on the CD chassis, and it lives or dies on the mounts. The Innovative Mounts 94-97 Accord conversion mount kits bolt an H series or F20B engine into a CD5, CD7 or CE1 Accord with a manual transmission using factory hardware and no hood trimming. There is no single part number for this job. Which one you need depends on the engine going in and on the trim of the car it is going into.

What It Is and Why It Works

A conversion kit is not the same thing as a replacement kit. The engine you are installing sits differently in the bay than the F22B2 or F22B1 that came out, so the brackets have to relocate the pickup points rather than just copy the factory ones. Innovative Mounts builds these as welded steel brackets with solid polyurethane bushings, which is what makes the swap bolt in instead of turning into a fabrication project.

The bushings are also why the car will not tear itself apart afterwards. Factory Accord mounts are stamped steel shells with rubber bonded in, and two of them carry damping fluid. An H22A making real power will pull that rubber apart, and a torn mount lets the engine load the axles unevenly, which is where wheel hop comes from. Solid polyurethane has nothing to tear and no fluid to lose.

That comes at a cost you need to accept up front. Polyurethane is stiffer than the factory fluid mount, so it puts more engine noise and vibration into the chassis, not less. That is the whole reason Innovative sells durometer options. The manufacturer rates 75A (black) for roughly 250 to 400 hp, 85A (grey) for 400 to 500 hp, and 95A (red) for 500 hp and up. A naturally aspirated H22A street car should be on 75A. Choose 85A if the car is boosted or sees track days. The 95A is effectively a solid mount and it will shake the whole cabin at idle, so it belongs in a race car. Buying the stiffest option on a swapped daily driver is the most common regret with these kits.

The fourth kit in this family is part number 29751, the EX chassis kit for an H22A or F22A swap. If you have an EX and you are installing an H22A rather than an H23A or F20B, that is the one you want.

Fitment

1994 to 1997 Honda Accord DX (manual) H22A swap (29750)
1994 to 1997 Honda Accord LX (manual) H22A swap (29750)

1994 to 1997 Honda Accord EX (manual) H23A or F20B swap (29753)

Manual transmission chassis only. There is no automatic version of these conversion kits. The trim split is not cosmetic: the rear mount bolts to the subframe behind the engine and the CD chassis came with different rear mount patterns depending on trim.

What to Know Before You Buy

Count the holes on your rear mount before you order anything. A manual EX uses a tall rear mount with a four hole bolt pattern. A DX or LX uses a short rear mount with a three hole pattern that sits flat on the subframe. Most automatics use a tall three bolt mount with a vacuum solenoid attached to it. That single detail decides whether you need the DX/LX part number or the EX part number, and it takes two minutes under the car.

The post mount is the second thing people miss, and it changes with the engine. An H22A or F22A swap needs the H series timing belt post mount from a 92-01 Prelude, Honda part number 11910-P13-000. An H23A or F20B swap needs the F series post mount from a 95-98 Odyssey or 94-02 Accord, Honda part number 11910-P0A-010. Neither bracket comes in the box. Buy it while the engine is still on the stand.

Innovative notes that the 29750 H series kit will also work with an F series engine as long as you use the correct post mount for that engine, which is worth knowing if the swap plan changes mid build.

Each kit is three mounts: engine, transmission and rear. The front torque mount is a separate part number and is not included. On a swapped Accord making real torque it is worth adding, and the Innovative Mounts traction bar for the 94-97 Accord and Odyssey is the next step after that if you are still hopping a wheel on launch.

Mounts cannot be returned or exchanged once they have been bolted down, because the bolt impressions show. Confirm your trim, your rear mount pattern and your engine before anything gets torqued. Innovative states a lifetime warranty on these.

One last thing. If the engine already in the car is the factory F22B1 or F22B2 and you are just replacing worn mounts, do not buy a conversion kit. Part number 29754 covers a DX or LX with a manual, 29757 covers an EX with a manual, and 29756 covers any of them with an automatic.
