Innovative Mounts 94-97 Accord Automatic Mount Kit

Almost every performance mount kit for the CD chassis Accord assumes you have a five speed. If your 94-97 Accord, 95-98 Odyssey, 96-99 Isuzu Oasis or 97-99 Acura CL has an automatic behind the F series, this is the one that actually bolts in. The Innovative Mounts 94-97 Accord automatic mount kit (part number 29756) replaces the three tired factory mounts on an automatic F-Series car with solid polyurethane in welded steel brackets.

What It Is and Why It Works

The automatic cars got their own mount hardware from the factory, which is why they need their own part number. The rear mount on an automatic CD5, CD7 or CE1 is the tall three bolt style with a vacuum assist solenoid attached to it, and it is not the same mount that lives under a five speed DX, LX or EX. Order a manual kit for an automatic car and you will find that out with the subframe already dropped.

What fails is predictable. Honda built these mounts as stamped steel shells with rubber bonded in, and two of them carry damping fluid. After twenty five years the rubber is cracked and the fluid has leaked out, so the engine rocks under load. On an automatic that shows up as a hard thunk into drive, a shudder on part throttle upshifts, and a drivetrain that feels like it is arriving a beat after your foot. Innovative replaces the rubber and the fluid with solid polyurethane. Nothing to tear, nothing to leak, and the F22B1 or F23A stops moving independently of the car.

Say the honest part out loud: polyurethane is stiffer than the factory fluid mount, so it sends more engine noise and vibration into the cabin, not less. On a family Odyssey or a 2.3CL that is a real consideration. Durometer is how you decide how much of it you feel. Innovative rates 75A (black) for roughly 250 to 400 hp, 85A (grey) for 400 to 500 hp and 95A (red) for 500 hp and up. Almost nobody driving an automatic F series car should be above 75A. If the car is a stock Odyssey or a daily driven Accord and you just want mounts that are not shot, the manufacturer also builds this kit in 60A, rated up to 250 hp, which is the softest and quietest option in the range.

Automatic transmission and F-Series four cylinder only. This kit does not fit the 3.0CL, which is a J30A V6 on a completely different mount layout, and it does not fit any manual car. Manual DX and LX Accords take part number 29754, manual EX Accords take part number 29757.

What to Know Before You Buy

Check the rear mount before you order. On the CD chassis, an automatic normally uses a tall three bolt rear mount with a vacuum assist solenoid hanging off it, a manual EX uses a tall four hole mount, and a manual DX or LX uses a short three hole mount that sits flat on the subframe. If the car has been swapped, converted or had a junkyard subframe put under it at some point, do not trust the badge on the trunk. Look at the mount and count the holes.

The engine mount in this kit needs the F-Series timing belt post mount from a 95-98 Odyssey or 94-02 Accord, Honda part number 11910-P0A-010. That bracket is not in the box. If your engine does not already have one, get it before you start, because you will not want to stop halfway through with the motor on a leveler.

The box holds three mounts: engine, transmission and rear. The front torque mount is a separate part number and is not included. If yours is soft you will still have a clunk after this job, so inspect it while everything is apart.

Set expectations on ride quality, particularly on a 95-98 Odyssey or a 2.3CL that gets used as family transport. These are stiffer than what Honda put in the car, so idle vibration and drivetrain noise go up. On a stock automatic F22B1 or F23A1 the 75A is already firmer than factory, and 85A or 95A are more mount than that car will ever need. Nobody has ever regretted going one step softer on a daily driver.

Mounts cannot be returned or exchanged once they have been bolted down, because the bolt impressions give it away. Confirm your transmission type, your engine family and your rear mount pattern before anything is torqued. Innovative states a lifetime warranty on these.

If the car is getting an H22A or F20B swap and an auto to manual conversion at the same time, this is not the kit. The conversion mounts are separate part numbers and they are manual chassis only.
