Honda R40 Front Main Seal - Genuine OEM (91212-R1B-A01)

Got a little oil weeping out the front of your K24, or a spot on the driveway you can't quite pin down? Before you blame a gasket, take a hard look at your front main seal. This one, Honda 91212-R1B-A01, is the genuine front crank seal for the R40 K24 engines, and it's the rubber ring that hugs the nose of your crankshaft and keeps your oil where it belongs. They don't last forever. The rubber goes hard, it loses its grip on the spinning crank, and pretty soon you're adding oil and wiping down the front of the motor every couple weeks. Pop a fresh one in and that headache's just gone.

This Is The Leak Everybody Misdiagnoses

Here's the thing about a front main leak, it's sneaky. Oil weeps out around the crank, then the spinning pulley slings it everywhere, so by the time you're under there you've got oil on the timing cover, oil on the pan rail, oil pretty much everywhere up front. So people chase the wrong thing. They throw a timing cover gasket at it, or an oil pan reseal, and the leak's still there because it was coming from this seal the whole time. If you've cleaned everything off and the oil keeps showing back up at the front of the crank, you've found it. And trust me, it doesn't get better on its own, it just keeps making a bigger mess.

If You're In There, Just Do It

Nobody pulls the front of an engine apart just for this seal, and you don't have to. You're usually in here for something bigger, a timing chain, a water pump, a rebuild on the stand, and that's exactly when you swap it. All the work is in the access. The seal costs next to nothing. So once you've got the crank pulley off and you're staring right at it, there's zero reason to put the old one back. Do it now, while it's right in front of you, and you're not kicking yourself a year later when it starts weeping again and you've gotta tear back in.
