Honda L15A/LEA Throttle Body Gasket - 17107-RB0-007
Got a vacuum leak at your throttle body on your Fit, CR-Z, or Insight? Your throttle body gasket's probably shot. The Honda L15A/LEA throttle body gasket (part number 17107-RB0-007) seals your throttle body to your intake manifold. Here's the thing: this isn't a paper gasket like you're used to on K series engines. On the L15A and LEA engines, the gasket sits inside the intake manifold and it's made from rubber. When the gasket gets old and hard, it doesn't seal right and you get a vacuum leak. Your car idles high, runs rough, and your check engine light might come on with lean codes. Replace your throttle body gasket if you're getting vacuum leak symptoms or you're doing throttle body work.
Here's Why This Gasket's Different
If you've worked on K series engines before, you're used to paper throttle body gaskets that sit between the throttle body flange and the intake manifold. The L15A and LEA engines don't use that design. On these engines, the throttle body gasket's a rubber ring that sits inside a groove in the intake manifold. The throttle body presses into the gasket when you bolt it on. It's more like an O-ring than a traditional gasket. When the rubber gets old from heat cycles, it gets hard and it shrinks. Once it's hard, it doesn't seal properly and you get a vacuum leak.
Here's What Happens When It Leaks
When your throttle body gasket leaks, unmetered air gets sucked into your intake manifold past the throttle body. Your ECU doesn't know about this extra air, so your air/fuel ratio goes lean. You'll get high idle (1500-2000 RPM instead of 800 RPM), rough idle, hesitation when you're accelerating, and your check engine light might come on. A vacuum leak at the throttle body's annoying and it makes your car run like crap. Just replace the gasket.
Replace It When You're Doing Throttle Body Work
Whenever you're pulling your throttle body off for cleaning or intake manifold work, replace this gasket. It's cheap. If you reuse an old gasket that's already been heat-cycled for years, it's not going to seal right when you bolt your throttle body back on. You'll have a vacuum leak and you'll be pulling your throttle body off again to replace the gasket you should've replaced the first time. Don't do that to yourself.
