Honda OEM L15A Spark Plug - 2007-2013 Honda Fit

Your Fit's running rough and you're wondering what's wrong. You're starting it cold and it's hesitating. You're accelerating and the engine's misfiring. The check engine light might be on or it might not be. Could be the spark plugs. The L15A engine in your Fit's got four spark plugs and if they're original they're way overdue. Honda OEM part 12290-RB1-003 is the spark plug that goes in your Fit. It's the correct plug for the L15A engine. When spark plugs are worn or fouled the engine can't ignite the fuel mixture right. You get rough idle. You get hesitation. You get poor fuel economy. You get hard starts. Replace the spark plugs and most of those problems disappear. If your Fit's been running rough this is probably where to start.

Here's What Spark Plugs Actually Do

The spark plug sits inside the cylinder and creates a spark that ignites the fuel mixture. That spark happens thousands of times a second when the engine's running. The electrode inside the plug wears down over time. Eventually the gap gets too big. The spark can't jump the gap anymore. No spark means no ignition. The fuel doesn't burn right. You're getting misfires. The cylinder's not producing power. You're losing power and efficiency. The engine runs rough. Replace the plugs with fresh ones and the spark's strong again. Combustion's clean. The engine runs smooth.

If Your Fit's Running Rough The Plugs Are Probably Shot

If your Fit's got rough idle or hesitation on acceleration or hard cold starts the spark plugs are usually the culprit. We've seen people ignore a rough-running engine thinking it's something serious. They're worried it's the transmission or the engine itself. Then they finally check the spark plugs and they're black and fouled. The engine's been misfiring for months because the plugs are worn. New plugs fix it immediately. The engine runs smooth. The hesitation's gone. Hard starts go away. We've also seen people drive around with bad plugs thinking they need a tune-up or a new alternator. The plugs are the problem the whole time. Check them first before you start worrying about bigger issues.

Four Plugs In Your Fit - Replace All Of Them

The 07-13 Fit Spark Plugs, 12290-RB1-003, are sold individually. The L15A engine's got four cylinders which means four spark plugs. You need to replace all four when you're doing a plug service. Don't do two and leave the other two. We've seen people replace only the bad plugs they can see are fouled and leave the worn ones in. The worn plugs are still misfiring. The engine's still running rough. They're confused because new plugs didn't fix it. They needed to replace all four. When you're doing the job do it right and replace all of them at the same time. The labor's already there. You're not going back in there in a month because you skipped the other two.

OEM Spark Plug - The Right Heat Range

This is genuine Honda OEM part 12290-RB1-003. It's the spark plug Honda installs in L15A engines at the factory. The heat range is correct for the L15A. The electrode material is correct. The gap is correct. When you install this the ignition system works exactly the way Honda engineered it. Aftermarket spark plugs are cheaper. Some are fine. Some are the wrong heat range. We've seen cheap plugs that run too hot and they burn out fast. We've seen plugs that run too cold and they foul up with carbon buildup. We've seen aftermarket plugs with electrodes that wear down way faster than OEM plugs. The spark plug controls combustion in your engine. It's not where you use mystery plugs and hope they work. Buy the Honda plug. It's the right spec for your engine. It sparks right. It lasts. You install it and the engine runs clean.
