Genuine Honda Ring Gear Bolts - J/K Series (PYZ Shouldered / PPP Non-Shouldered)
These are the genuine Honda bolts that hold the ring gear to the differential, and there are two versions that are not interchangeable. The difference matters most if you're installing an aftermarket limited-slip differential: a non-LSD transmission uses one bolt, but an LSD requires the stronger shouldered version at a higher torque. Get this right, because the ring gear bolts are a critical, high-load fastener, and the wrong one on an LSD install is a genuine failure risk. Both are 11mm, sold individually, and you need 10 for the job.
Which Bolt You Need
The most important thing on this page, so read it before ordering.
PYZ (90017-PYZ-000) is the shouldered bolt, for LSD applications. It's used in transmissions that came with a limited-slip differential, and it has a shoulder and a higher torque-to-yield spec to handle the greater loads an LSD puts on the ring gear mounting. This is the bolt for a factory-LSD transmission, and critically, it's the bolt you need if you're installing an aftermarket LSD into a transmission that didn't originally have one. Even if your trans came with the non-shouldered PPP bolts, adding an LSD means stepping up to the shouldered PYZ bolts.
PPP (90017-PPP-000) is the non-shouldered bolt, for non-LSD applications. It's used in open-differential transmissions and doesn't have the shoulder. This is the correct bolt for refreshing a non-LSD transmission that's staying open.
The rule: if there's an LSD in the transmission, factory or aftermarket, you need the PYZ shouldered bolts. If it's an open diff staying open, the PPP bolts are correct. Don't put non-shouldered PPP bolts on an LSD; they're not rated for it.
Why The Ring Gear Bolt Matters
The ring gear is what the final drive turns, it takes all the engine's torque after the transmission and sends it to the differential and axles. The bolts holding that ring gear to the diff are under enormous load, and they're torque-to-yield fasteners, meaning they're torqued to a precise spec that stretches them slightly to achieve the correct clamping force.
Because of that, you don't reuse ring gear bolts, once torqued to yield, they've stretched and won't clamp correctly a second time. A fresh set is required any time you've had the ring gear off, whether that's an LSD swap, a differential service, or a final drive change. A loose or failed ring gear bolt is catastrophic inside a transmission, so this is a fastener you always replace with fresh, correct-spec bolts.
Sold Individually — You Need 10
Important for ordering the right quantity.
These are sold individually, and a Honda ring gear uses 10 bolts. So any time you're adding new bolts for an LSD install or a final drive refresh, you need 10. Order 10 for the job, it's an easy quantity to under-order, and you don't want to be short when the transmission's apart.

Fitment Summary
PYZ (shouldered): LSD transmissions, and any aftermarket LSD install. PPP (non-shouldered): non-LSD open-diff transmissions. Both 11mm, genuine Honda, sold individually, 10 required.
If you're installing a limited-slip differential, factory or aftermarket, into your Honda or Acura, you need the shouldered PYZ bolts; if you're refreshing a non-LSD final drive, the PPP bolts are correct. Either way they're torque-to-yield, so always fit fresh, and order 10 for the job. Match the bolt to your diff setup and torque them to spec, this is the fastener you don't guess on.
