Honda F20C/F22C Exhaust Manifold Gasket - 18115-PCX-014
Got an exhaust leak at your header? Your exhaust manifold gasket's probably blown. The Honda S2000 exhaust manifold gasket (part number 18115-PCX-014) seals your header to your cylinder head. When the gasket gets old and crushed from heat cycles, it doesn't seal properly and exhaust gases leak out. You'll hear ticking or hissing from the engine bay when you're idling and you'll smell exhaust. Replace your exhaust manifold gasket when you're installing a new header, doing head work, or any time you remove your header. Don't reuse old gaskets. They're crushed and they won't seal when you reinstall your header.
Here's What Happens When Your Header Gasket Leaks
Your exhaust manifold gasket seals the connection between your header and your cylinder head. The gasket sits between the header flange and the cylinder head's exhaust ports. When the gasket fails, exhaust gases escape before they enter your header. You'll hear a ticking noise that gets louder as you rev the engine. That's exhaust pulses escaping through the leak. The leak also causes a loss of backpressure, which can throw off your air/fuel ratio slightly. An exhaust leak at the header's annoying because you hear it constantly and it smells like exhaust in your cabin. Just replace the gasket.
Multi-Layer Steel Construction
This is a multi-layer steel (MLS) gasket. MLS gaskets are made from multiple layers of steel that are stamped and stacked together. The layers compress and conform to the mating surfaces better than single-layer gaskets. MLS gaskets also handle heat cycles and vibration better than composite gaskets. They don't blow out as easily and they last longer. Honda uses MLS gaskets from the factory on the S2000 because the F20C and F22C run high compression and high exhaust temps.
Replace It Every Time You Remove Your Header
Any time you're pulling your header off for header replacement, cylinder head work, or any other work, replace this gasket. If you reuse an old gasket that's already been crushed and heat-cycled, it's not going to seal properly when you bolt your header back on. You'll have an exhaust leak and you'll be pulling your header off again to replace the gasket you should've replaced the first time. Don't do that to yourself.
