Honda F/K/L/R Series Crank Pulley Bolt - 90017-PCX-013
Replacing your timing chain or doing an engine rebuild? You need a new crank pulley bolt. The Honda F/K/L/R series crank pulley bolt (part number 90017-PCX-013) is the main bolt that holds your crankshaft pulley to your crankshaft. This bolt stretches when you torque it, which means you're supposed to replace it every time you remove it. Don't reuse old crank pulley bolts. They're torque-to-yield bolts that lose their clamping force after they've been torqued once. If you reuse an old bolt and it loosens up, your crank pulley can slip or come off, and that destroys your engine.
Why You Need a New Crank Pulley Bolt
Your crank pulley bolt is a torque-to-yield bolt. That means when you torque it to spec, the bolt stretches slightly. That stretch is what creates the clamping force that holds your crank pulley tight. Once the bolt's been torqued, it's stretched and it can't be reused. If you try to reuse an old crank pulley bolt, it won't clamp properly and your crank pulley can loosen up. When your crank pulley loosens, your timing belt or serpentine belt slips, your harmonic balancer doesn't work properly, and in the worst case your crank pulley comes completely off and destroys your front main seal and everything else in your timing cover area.
Replace It Every Time You Remove It
Any time you remove your crank pulley bolt, replace it with a new one. Don't try to save ten bucks by reusing the old bolt. The bolt's cheap and it's insurance against your crank pulley coming loose. If you're doing a timing belt job, water pump replacement, front main seal, or any work that requires removing your crank pulley, order a new crank pulley bolt with your parts so you've got it when you need it.

Note: This is a torque-to-yield bolt. Replace it every time you remove it. Don't reuse old crank pulley bolts. They stretch when you torque them and they lose their clamping force. If you reuse an old bolt, your crank pulley can loosen and come off. Torque this bolt to the specification in your service manual. Most Honda applications use a torque spec plus an additional degree rotation (like 90 ft-lbs plus 90 degrees). Make sure you follow the correct torque procedure for your engine. If you don't torque it properly, your crank pulley won't stay tight.
