Honda OEM Timing Belt Guide Plate - D Series Engines
Doing a timing belt job on your D series Civic, CRX, or Del Sol? Don't overlook the timing belt guide plates. These metal guide plates sandwich the crank pulley timing belt sprocket to keep the belt tracking straight on the pulley. One installs in front of the sprocket and one installs behind it, so you need two per engine. If the guides are bent, worn, or missing, your timing belt can walk off the sprocket and cause catastrophic engine damage. Replace them while you've got the timing covers off and the belt out. Part number 13622-PM3-020.
Why They Matter
The timing belt guide plates keep the belt from shifting side to side on the crank sprocket. Without them, the belt can gradually walk toward one edge of the sprocket under load and eventually slip off. On an interference engine like the D series, that means bent valves and a destroyed engine. They're cheap and they're right there when you're doing a timing belt service, so there's no reason to skip them.
Two Guides Per Engine
D series engines use two of these guide plates per engine. One installs behind the crank timing sprocket against the block, and one installs in front of the sprocket behind the crank pulley. They sandwich the sprocket between them to keep the belt properly aligned. Order two if you're replacing both.
