Genuine Honda Water Pump (19200-P72-013) - B16A2, B18C1 & B18C5

The water pump circulates coolant through your engine, and when it fails, it fails hard, an overheated B-series VTEC can warp the head or worse in minutes. This is the genuine Honda replacement for the B16A2, B18C1, and B18C5, the pump for a GS-R, Type R, Civic Si, or Del Sol VTEC. It's the part you fit to keep the engine cool, and critically, it's the part you do with your timing belt.

Do It With The Timing Belt

The single most important thing about this pump, so it leads.

On these B-series engines, the water pump is driven by the timing belt and sits behind it. That means getting to the pump requires removing the timing belt, which is the labor-intensive part of the job.

So the rule every experienced Honda tech follows: replace the water pump every time you do the timing belt on your B16A or B18C. The belt comes off on an interval anyway, and the pump is right there behind it, having already been through most of the work to expose it. If you reuse an old pump and it fails a year later, you're pulling the timing belt all over again to replace a part you could have done the first time for a few dollars more.

Doing the pump, timing belt, and tensioner together as one job is standard practice, and it's how you get a cooling system and timing system you can trust for the next interval rather than gambling on an aging pump. Since the crank pulley comes off for this job too, it's also the moment to fit a fresh crank pulley bolt and key.

Why A Failing Pump Is Serious

Worth understanding, because the failure mode is severe.

The pump has a bearing and a seal that wear over time and heat cycles. When the bearing goes, the pump can seize, which on a timing-belt-driven pump can snap or throw the belt, and on an interference engine like these, a thrown timing belt means the valves and pistons collide. When the seal goes, coolant leaks, and a low cooling system overheats the engine.

Either failure is expensive, a warped head, damaged valves, or a destroyed engine, from a part that costs very little to replace preventively. That's why the pump is a maintenance item you replace on schedule rather than running until it fails.

Genuine Honda, Built To Last The Interval

On a pump, quality directly affects how long it lasts before the next service.

This is the OEM Honda pump, made from quality materials that resist corrosion and wear while maintaining consistent coolant flow. A cheap aftermarket pump can fail well before the next timing belt interval, which puts you right back into the job early, exactly what replacing the pump with the belt is meant to avoid. The genuine pump is built to go the distance to the next interval, which is the whole point of doing it properly.

It's a direct-fit replacement, so it installs where the original came off with no modification.

B-Series VTEC Fitment

This is the VTEC B-series pump, for the B16A2, B18C1, and B18C5 engines.

Go by your engine to confirm. It covers the B16A2 (1999-2000 Civic Si, 1996-1997 Del Sol VTEC) and the B18C1 and B18C5 (1996-2001 Integra GS-R and Type R), the core high-performance B-series VTEC engines.

Who Should Grab One

This is for anyone doing a timing belt on a B16A2, B18C1, or B18C5, which is when you should do the pump, and for anyone whose pump is leaking, whining, or overdue. Genuine Honda, built to last to the next interval, and cheap insurance against an overheat or a thrown belt. Do it with the belt and tensioner, and get another interval of reliable cooling.

Fits: B16A2 (99-00 Civic Si, 96-97 Del Sol VTEC), B18C1 (96-01 Integra GS-R), B18C5 (97-01 Integra Type R). Part number: 19200-P72-013. Function: circulates coolant, timing-belt driven. Type: genuine Honda. Do it together with: timing belt, tensioner, crank pulley bolt, and key.
