Honda B Series Oil Strainer Gasket - 15221-PW0-S01
Rebuilding your B series or replacing your oil pump? You need a new oil strainer gasket. The Honda B series oil strainer gasket (part number 15221-PW0-S01) seals the oil strainer to your oil pump. When the gasket gets old and compressed, it leaks oil and it can suck air into your oil pump. If your oil pump's sucking air, you lose oil pressure and your engine destroys itself. Replace this gasket every time you pull your oil pan or remove your oil strainer. Don't reuse old gaskets. They always leak.
Why Your Oil Strainer Gasket Matters
Your oil strainer gasket sits between your oil strainer and your oil pump. It seals the connection so oil flows from your oil pan through your oil strainer into your oil pump without leaking or sucking air. The gasket's made from rubber or cork, and over time it gets compressed and hard from sitting in hot oil. Once the gasket hardens, it doesn't seal properly. When the seal breaks, you've got two problems: oil leaking out and air getting sucked in. If your oil pump's sucking air instead of oil, your oil pressure drops and your bearings run dry. That destroys your engine fast.
Replace It During Oil Pan or Oil Pump Work
Any time you pull your oil pan or remove your oil strainer, replace this gasket. The gasket's like two bucks and it takes ten seconds to install. If you reuse the old gasket and it leaks or sucks air, you've got to drop your oil pan all over again to fix it. That's hours of work to save two bucks. Don't do that to yourself. If you're doing an oil pump replacement, oil pan gasket, or engine rebuild, order a new oil strainer gasket with your parts so you've got it when you need it.

Note: Replace this gasket every time you remove your oil strainer. Don't reuse old gaskets. They always leak or suck air. Clean the mating surfaces on your oil strainer and oil pump before you install the new gasket. If there's old gasket material stuck to the surfaces, scrape it off. Make sure the surfaces are clean and flat so your new gasket seals properly. Torque your oil strainer bolts to spec. If you don't torque them properly, your gasket won't seal and you'll either leak oil or suck air into your oil pump.
