Honda Anti-Rodent Engine Wiring Harness Tape 4019-2317 - 3/4" x 60'
A chewed wiring harness is one of the most frustrating, expensive problems you can find under the hood, and it almost never happens while you're looking. Rodents get into a warm engine bay, gnaw on the wiring to keep their teeth worn down, and shred the insulation building a nest. What you're left with is a no-start, intermittent electrical gremlins that take hours to trace, or a repair bill for a harness that costs more than most of the parts around it. It's worst on the cars that sit: a project build on jack stands, a car parked for the winter, anything stored for a stretch. Honda's anti-rodent tape is built to stop it before it starts.
How It Works
The tape is infused with capsaicin, the same compound that makes chili peppers hot. A rodent bites down on a wrapped wire, gets a mouthful of heat, and moves on instead of settling in to chew. It's not a poison and it's not a trap. It simply makes your wiring an unpleasant place to gnaw, so the rodent looks elsewhere. The base is Honda's own electrical harness tape, so it does the normal job of a quality wrap too: it bundles, protects, and insulates while it deters.
Where to Use It
Wrap the runs that are exposed and tempting. The main engine harness, wiring near the firewall, anything routed low or along the frame where a rodent can reach it. One roll gives you 3/4" by 60 feet, which covers a lot of harness, though a full vehicle's worth of wiring may take more than one. It's ideal insurance any time a car is going to sit, whether that's a winter layup or a long build, but it's just as useful on a daily driver parked somewhere rodents are active.
Be realistic about what it does. This is a deterrent, and a good one, but no single product makes an engine bay rodent-proof on its own. For a car that's really under siege, pair the tape with the basics: keep the bay clean of nesting material, don't leave food or clutter nearby, and use traps if you've already got an active problem. The tape protects the wiring itself, which is the part you actually can't afford to lose.
Install
If you've ever wrapped a harness, you already know how to use it. Spiral it around the wiring with a slight overlap, the same as any harness tape, and you can run it right over existing loom or conduit. No tools, no heat, no special prep.
