This HKS replacement steering wheel for the Civic Type R FL5, released at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, swaps your OEM rim for a 368mm soft D shape with HKS tricolor stitching, a raised embroidered HKS logo on the center mark, and a choice of premium cowhide leather or Ultrasuede. It's not a performance upgrade in the dyno chart sense. It's a tactile upgrade in the every-drive sense.
What It Is and Why It Works
Two materials, one wheel. The leather version (51999-AH002) wraps the rim in smooth premium cowhide with a perforated leather gun grip section where your hands live at nine and three. HKS finishes the cowhide soft to the touch with a surface that resists slipping, and it reads as an OEM-plus upgrade rather than an aftermarket statement piece.
The Ultrasuede version (51999-AH003) trades the cowhide for Ultrasuede, the Toray microfiber in the same family as Alcantara, with a punched gun grip pattern. HKS specs this version for exactly one reason: grip with driving gloves during sports driving. If you run track days or autocross in gloves, this is the one. The honest trade-off is durability on a daily: suede-family materials mat and shine in high-contact spots faster than leather when driven with bare hands, so daily drivers should think hard before picking it for looks alone.
Both versions share the same geometry: 368mm outer diameter, 40mm rim thickness, and a soft D shape, meaning a flattened bottom that adds thigh clearance without going full race-wheel flat. The HKS logo on the top center mark is embroidered with a raised, three dimensional texture, and the tricolor stitching runs the seams.

What to Know Before You Buy
Read this part before ordering. This is a wheel rim and frame only, not a complete assembly. Your factory airbag, paddle shifters, audio and cruise controls, and plastic trim pieces all transfer from the OEM wheel onto the HKS frame, which is how you keep every factory function including the airbag. HKS does not include any of those OEM parts.
That transfer makes this a more involved job than a typical bolt-on. You're working around the SRS system, which means disconnecting the battery and waiting out the standoff time before touching the airbag, handling the module correctly, and torquing everything to Honda spec on reassembly. If you've never pulled an airbag wheel on a modern car, hand this one to a shop. HKS also notes tie rod adjustment may be required, which in practice means that if the wheel sits slightly off center after the swap, an alignment shop centers it in a few minutes.
