HKS Silent Hi-Power Exhaust - 2011-2016 Honda CR-Z
Most performance exhausts make you choose between flow and volume. The Silent Hi-Power is HKS's answer to that, and the numbers back it up. HKS measures it at 87dB closed and 55dB at idle, against a stock CR-Z at 88dB and 54dB. That's essentially factory volume with a genuinely better exhaust behind it, which is exactly what a lot of CR-Z owners want.
The Silent Chamber Is The Whole Trick
Here's how it works, and it's more clever than just packing a muffler with more material.
The Silent Hi-Power muffler contains a chamber designed to cancel sound waves rather than simply absorb them. Sound is a pressure wave, and if you reflect part of that wave back so it meets the incoming wave out of phase, the two partially cancel. That kills volume without adding the restriction you'd get from just stuffing more baffling in the path.
The result is an exhaust that flows properly while staying quiet, rather than one that's quiet because it's choked. That distinction matters, and it's why this is a different product from a restrictive stock-style muffler.
Who This Is Actually For
Being straight about it. If you want your CR-Z to be loud, this is the wrong exhaust and you'd want the standard Hi-Power instead.
The Silent version is for someone who wants better flow, better construction, and a more refined tone without announcing themselves. Apartment parking garages, early departures, a commute you don't want to shout through, or simply a preference for a mature sound rather than a loud one. On a CR-Z specifically that suits the car, since it was never meant to be obnoxious.
Cat-Back Or Axle-Back?
Two versions, and the difference is how much of the system you're replacing.
The cat-back (32016-AH030) replaces everything from the catalytic converter back, including the center pipe. More of the system, more flow improvement, and the full HKS design end to end.
The axle-back (32016-AH025) replaces just the rear section. It's a more targeted upgrade focused on the muffler and tip, using SUS304 in the visible areas for appearance and SUH409 in the hidden sections, where it offers thermal and acoustic advantages at lower cost.
Go cat-back if you want the complete system and the maximum flow benefit. Go axle-back if you mainly want the tone and the look for less money, or if your midpipe is already sorted.
Two Fitment Exclusions
Check both before ordering.
Not compatible with Modulo or Mugen rear under spoilers. If your CR-Z has either fitted, this exhaust won't clear it.
CVT cars are not certified. HKS notes the CVT is not adaptable for certification, so if emissions or JASMA certification matters for your situation, that's worth knowing.
SUS304 Stainless
Built from SUS304 grade stainless, which resists rust far better than mild steel and keeps its finish rather than dulling out. On a car now approaching fifteen years old, an exhaust that outlasts the rest of the car is worth having.
The axle-back uses SUS304 where you can see it and SUH409 in the concealed sections, which is a sensible use of materials rather than a cost cut, since SUH409 brings genuine thermal and acoustic benefits where appearance doesn't matter.
