HKS Hi-Power Cat-Back Exhaust - 1992-1995 Honda Civic
The Hi-Power is HKS's most recognizable exhaust and it's been on EG Civics since these cars were new. The design philosophy is simple: get exhaust gases out with as few restrictions and as few unnecessary bends as possible. On a naturally aspirated D-series, that shows up as better mid and high rpm breathing, along with the tone HKS built its name on.
Two Versions, Pick Yours
Check this before ordering, because the split is by engine and body style.
3203-EX009 fits the coupe and sedan with the D15B. That's the DX, EX, and LX cars.
3203-EX015 fits the Si hatchback with the D16Z6.
They aren't interchangeable, so confirm your engine and body style rather than going by badge alone. Both are Hi-Power systems built the same way with identical piping and tip sizing, just routed for their specific application.
Straight Path, Fewer Bends
This is the core of the Hi-Power design and it comes directly from HKS's endurance and GT racing work in Japan.
Every bend in an exhaust is a restriction. Gas has to change direction, which slows it down and creates turbulence, and turbulent flow moves through a pipe considerably worse than smooth flow does. HKS designs these with a race-inspired offset muffler and piping layout that minimizes direction changes and keeps the path as direct as the chassis allows.
On a naturally aspirated engine, the benefit builds as you add other modifications. A stock D-series doesn't produce enough exhaust volume to fully use a free-flowing system, but add intake, cams, or a header and the exhaust becomes the bottleneck. That's why the Hi-Power tends to be the exhaust people keep as the build progresses rather than outgrowing.
Sized For The Engine, Not For Show
Both systems run 55mm piping into a 95mm outside diameter tip, and that sizing is deliberate rather than incidental.
Bigger isn't automatically better on exhaust. Oversize the piping on a small naturally aspirated engine and you lose exhaust gas velocity, which costs you the scavenging that pulls spent gas out of the cylinder. What you end up with is a car that might show a marginally higher peak number and feels worse everywhere you actually drive.
HKS sizes these to keep velocity up where a D-series lives while still flowing considerably better than the restrictive factory system. It's the right size for the car rather than the biggest pipe that fits.
SUS304 Stainless Throughout
Both the muffler and the tip are polished SUS304 stainless steel, which is the practical reason these last. Stainless resists rust far better than mild steel, so this isn't an exhaust that rots out after a few winters of road salt.
On a car that's now thirty years old, that matters more than it did when these were new. A stainless system fitted today will almost certainly outlast whatever else you're doing to the car.
The Hi-Power Sound
Worth setting expectations honestly. The Hi-Power is a well-known tone in the Honda world and it isn't a quiet exhaust. That's the point, and it's why people buy them.
What separates it from cheap alternatives is quality of sound rather than just volume. It's a deeper, cleaner note rather than the raspy drone a poorly designed system produces. If you've heard one on an EG before, you know exactly what you're getting.

Who Should Run This Exhaust
This is for the EG owner who wants a genuine name-brand exhaust rather than a generic one, and who's building the car in a direction where flow will eventually matter. HKS has been doing this longer than most of these cars have existed, the stainless construction means you fit it once, and the sound is the one people recognize. Match your engine and body style, bolt it on, and enjoy it.
