Haltech Nexus Plug-In ECU - The K-Swap Answer (K20A2 & K20A3, DC5 RSX / EP3 Civic Si Harness)
If you've ever wired up a K-swap, you already know where the pain lives. The engine's the easy part. It's the wiring and the ECU that turn a weekend into a month. The Haltech Nexus Plug-In is about to be the next best thing to happen to K-swaps. It gives you full standalone-level engine management in a unit that plugs straight into the DC5 RSX and EP3 Civic Si harness, so instead of building a standalone wiring setup from scratch, you plug in and start tuning. For a swap, that's the shortcut everyone's been waiting for.
Why It's A Game Changer For Swaps
Most K-swap headaches come down to making an engine talk to a chassis it didn't come in. Go the standalone route and you're staring at a bare harness, a stack of connectors, and a lot of hours. The Nexus flips that. Because it plugs into the factory DC5 and EP3 layout and drops into the stock ECU location, you get true standalone capability without the standalone wiring project. If your swap is based on that harness, or you're planning it that way, this is the cleanest path from swapped-in to running that you'll find.
It Keeps The Good Stuff Working
A lot of swap setups leave you giving up creature comforts and half your sensors. Not here. The Nexus supports the vital OEM functions your car relies on, so the swap actually behaves like a finished car and not a science project. Then it goes further. Through the auxiliary connector you get Haltech's OEM Plus features, and these are the ones a swapper actually wants: drive-by-wire throttle, O2 control, flex fuel so you can run E85, plus oil pressure and fuel pressure monitoring so you can watch the health of a fresh build in real time. When you've just dropped a motor into a chassis, that kind of visibility is worth its weight.
Room To Grow When The Build Gets Serious
A swap is rarely the finish line. It's usually the start. The Nexus is built for wherever you take it next. You get CO2 boost control for the boosted crowd, a race timer, advanced torque management, launch control for putting the power down clean, and nitrous control if that's the plan. It's also got 128MB of onboard data logging built in, so you can log a pull and actually see what your new combo is doing instead of guessing. Whatever your swap turns into down the road, the ECU's already ready for it.
Tuning You Can Actually Handle
Standalone used to mean intimidating, and for a lot of swappers that fear is real. Haltech went the other way with this one. There's a setup wizard built into their NSP software that walks you through getting the car running, and you can use the Haltech Connect app straight from your phone. Built-in Wi-Fi means you can run diagnostics and make changes without being chained to a laptop. It won't replace a proper tune from someone who knows K-series, but it makes getting your swap alive and living with it day to day genuinely straightforward.
One Big Thing To Know Before You Buy
Read this twice, because it matters on a swap. The Nexus Plug-In supports manual transmissions only, meaning a factory 5-speed or 6-speed manual. If your build is running an automatic, this is not the ECU for it. Sort out your transmission plan before you order. We'd rather tell you now than have you find out on install day.
What's In The Box
Haltech sends you a complete package so you're not hunting down extra parts mid-build. The kit includes the Nexus Plug-In ECU, a 2.5m (8') air temperature and wideband expansion harness, an air temperature sensor with a 1/8" NPT aluminium bung, mounting brackets and hardware to suit, 2.5m of vacuum hose with a T piece, a Haltech USB-C cable, and a quick start guide.
Who This Is For
This one's built for the swap crowd first. If you're dropping a K20A2 or K20A3 into a build using the DC5 RSX or EP3 Civic Si harness, the Nexus gives you standalone power without the standalone wiring nightmare, and it's the fastest clean route to a running, tunable swap. And if you happen to own an actual DC5 RSX or EP3 Si and want to ditch the factory ECU's limits, it drops right into your car too. Either way, plug it in, get it dialed by a good tuner, and go enjoy the build.
