Goodridge G-Stop Stainless Brake Line Kit - 2001-2005 Honda Civic EM2/ES1 (Disc or Drum Rear)

If your Civic's brake pedal feels soft or spongy, that's partly your rubber brake lines flexing, and on an 01-05 Civic, those lines are decades old. As rubber brake lines age and heat up, they expand under pressure, so some of your pedal effort goes into ballooning the lines instead of clamping the brakes, and the pedal goes vague. These Goodridge braided stainless lines fix that: a PTFE inner line wrapped in a stainless steel braid that doesn't expand, so the pedal stays firm and consistent. It's offered in versions for rear-disc and rear-drum cars, so pick the one that matches your Civic's rear brakes.

Pick Your Variant: Rear Disc Or Rear Drum

The most important thing to get right before ordering, because the EM2/ES1 Civic came with two different rear brake setups that use different lines.

Rear drum is for the DX, GX, HX, Hybrid, LX, and Value Package, these cars have rear drum brakes.

Rear disc is for the EX and Si, which have rear disc brakes.

Order the version that matches your actual rear brakes. The quickest way to be sure is to look at your rear brakes: discs (a rotor and caliper) means the rear-disc version; drums (a solid drum over the hub) means the rear-drum version. Go by what's actually on the car rather than just the trim, since a car could have been changed, getting this right means the lines fit your setup correctly.

Why Braided Lines Firm Up The Pedal

Here's what's actually happening, and what these do and don't change.

Rubber brake lines flex and expand under the pressure of braking, and that expansion is what you feel as a soft, spongy pedal, part of your foot pressure is stretching the lines instead of applying the brakes. It gets worse as the lines age, and on an 01-05 Civic, the original rubber is well past its best.

The stainless braid around these Goodridge lines doesn't expand the way rubber does, so all your pedal pressure goes straight to the brakes. The result is a firmer, more responsive pedal with a more consistent feel. To be clear about what braided lines do: they improve pedal feel and consistency, they're not a substitute for better pads, rotors, or tires if you're chasing shorter stopping distances, but for how the brakes feel and respond, the difference is immediate and genuine, a noticeably firmer, more connected pedal than the soft factory setup.

PTFE Core, Stainless Braid

The construction is what makes them firm and durable.

Each line is a PTFE inner line (which handles brake fluid and heat without degrading) inside a stainless steel overbraid that provides the firmness and protects the line from abrasion and corrosion. On a car this age, that durability matters, the braided lines won't crack and perish the way the factory rubber has, so it's a long-term fix, not another rubber line that'll age out.

Goodridge is the name in braided brake lines, and these go through a nine-point quality-assurance process, each line tested for tensile strength and pressure-rated to 3,000 psi. They meet FMVSS 106 (the federal brake-hose safety standard), are DOT compliant, and are TÜV approved, properly certified rather than just a cosmetic braided line.

Complete Kit, Direct Bolt-On

Everything for the install is in the box.

This is a complete set of lines with the hardware to fit them, so there's nothing else to source. The hose ends and brackets are made to match your factory design, so it's a direct bolt-on replacement for the rubber lines, using your factory calipers (or wheel cylinders on drum cars) with no modification. It's a straightforward swap, you're replacing the lines one for one and bleeding the system, and on a car this age, fresh lines and a brake bleed make a real difference.

They're ABS-compatible, and on ABS-equipped cars they also help reduce the pedal chatter you can feel through soft rubber lines.

Fitment

2001-2005 Honda Civic EM2 (sedan) and ES1 (coupe)

Rear drum (DX, GX, HX, Hybrid, LX, Value Package) or rear disc (EX, Si), select the version matching your rear brakes. Does not fit the EP3 Civic Si hatchback. Direct fit, works with factory brakes.

This is for the EM2 or ES1 Civic owner who wants a firmer, more consistent brake pedal and to replace the decades-old factory rubber lines in one go. PTFE-core stainless braided lines that don't balloon like the old rubber, a complete direct-bolt-on kit, proper certification, and durability that outlasts the perished factory lines. It won't shorten your stopping distances on its own, but it tightens up how the pedal feels and holds up. Check whether your car has rear disc or drum brakes, pick the matching version, bolt them on, bleed the brakes, and feel the difference the first time you push the pedal.

Fits: 2001-2005 Honda Civic EM2 (sedan) and ES1 (coupe). Does not fit: EP3 Civic Si hatchback (separate kit). Variants: rear drum (DX/GX/HX/Hybrid/LX/Value Package) or rear disc (EX/Si), match to your rear brakes. Type: braided stainless steel brake line kit, complete set. Construction: PTFE inner line, stainless steel overbraid, 3,000 psi rated. Benefit: firmer, more consistent pedal; eliminates the sponginess from flexing rubber lines. Includes: full set of lines with hardware. Install: direct bolt-on, works with factory brakes. Certification: FMVSS 106, DOT compliant, TÜV approved.
