One belt runs everything on the front of your EP3's K20A3: alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, and the water pump. When it lets go you don't lose an accessory, you lose charging, steering assist, and coolant flow at the same time, and on a K-series the water pump part is the one that costs you a motor if you keep driving. The Gates K070653 is the OE-spec replacement for the 2002-2005 Civic Si, matching Honda 38920-PNF-004.

What It Is and Why It Works

This is the standard black Micro-V, not the blue Racing K070653RB. Seven ribs, K section, 65.36 in effective length, EPDM rib compound over a polyester cord. EPDM is the reason modern belts don't crack the way the old neoprene ones did; it also means they don't show wear the same way. A worn EPDM belt looks fine from the top and the ribs are rounded off underneath, which is where the cold-start squeal and the flickering battery light come from. Gates form-grinds each belt so the rib profile matches the pulleys, and rates the line to SAE J1459, J2432, and J1596.

It's an EP3 belt. The 2001-2005 DX, LX, EX, and HX are D17 cars with a completely different accessory drive. The base RSX has the same K20A3 but a different belt length (Gates K070680), and the RSX Type-S and the 2006-2011 Si (K20Z3, Gates K070649) are different again. If you've K-swapped an EG or EK with a K20A3 and kept the factory accessories, this is your belt too, but the moment you delete A/C or move the alternator you're into custom belt lengths and this listing won't help you.

What to Know Before You Buy

Before you pull the old belt, draw the routing or find the diagram sticker on the underside of the hood; the EP3 path around the idler isn't intuitive and a belt on backwards will shred a rib in a week. Put a 14mm on the tensioner bolt, swing it off, slip the old belt, route the new one, and check every pulley before you let the tensioner back down. With a helper it's a ten minute job.

While the belt's off, spin the idler and the tensioner pulley by hand. Any roughness, wobble, or grease weeping out of the bearing means that pulley is going to eat this belt the same way it ate the last one. On an EP3 with 150,000-plus miles, we'd replace the tensioner assembly with the belt rather than gamble on it. If you're chasing a squeal that a new belt didn't fix, that's your answer.

Gates puts the service interval around 90,000 miles. If you bought the car used and can't prove when the belt was done, do it now; it's the cheapest insurance on the car. Anyone doing a timing chain or a water pump on a K20A3 should have a new belt sitting in the box before they start.
