Energy Suspension Motor Mount Inserts for 92-01 Prelude

If your 92-01 Prelude lurches when you get on and off the throttle, clunks on shifts, or the whole drivetrain feels like it rocks before the car actually goes, your factory motor mounts are worn and the engine is moving around more than it should. These Energy Suspension inserts fill the hollow voids in the factory torque mounts with polyurethane, so the engine stops rocking on its mounts and puts your power down instead of wasting it twisting the motor. You keep the stock mounts and the factory cushioning, you just take the slop out of them. It is one of the cheapest upgrades that you actually feel every time you drive the car.

This fits the 92-01 Prelude across the whole run, the S, Si, Si 4WS, SE, VTEC, and the Type SH. The set fills two torque positions, the front mount and the rear mount up near the firewall, which are the two that let the engine pitch under load. Polyurethane also shrugs off the oil and heat that tear up rubber mounts, so once these are in they stay firm. Owners consistently describe the same thing after install: the car accelerates quicker because the engine is not lagging and torquing before it drives the wheels, and the clutch take-up gets noticeably less jerky because the motor is not rocking back and forth.

What these do

These are inserts, not full replacement mounts. They press into the voids in your existing factory torque mounts and firm them up, so you get most of the benefit of a solid mount while keeping the factory rubber doing the cushioning. The result is less engine movement, quicker throttle response, and a more direct feel through the drivetrain. They reduce the wheel hop and torque-induced movement that, left unchecked, can actually beat up other driveline parts over time.

What to know before you buy

First, the honest tradeoff, and on motor mount inserts it is real, not a formality. Firming up the mounts means more engine vibration makes it into the cabin, and you will feel it most at idle, especially with the A/C on. Owners are upfront about this. The fix most people use is simple: give it a touch of throttle off idle and it settles right down, and once you are moving it is a non-issue. If your Prelude is a comfort-first cruiser, know that going in. If you want the car to feel tight and responsive, the trade is well worth it and most owners say so.

Second, plan for one install quirk that catches people. On a lot of these cars the rear side of the rear insert needs about a quarter inch shaved off to clear the two rear mount bolts. Do that trimming before you install it, because once it is in you cannot get a cutting tool to the driver's side to fix it. It is an easy modification with a file or a cutting wheel, you just want to know about it before you are under the car. The front insert generally goes in without drama, and the rear takes a little finessing to seat.

Third, set expectations on what these are. They are inserts that firm up your existing mounts, not brand-new mounts. If one of your factory mounts is actually cracked or oil-soaked and falling apart, you may want to replace that mount and add the insert, rather than relying on the insert to hold a failed mount together. For a mount that is just tired and soft, which is most of them at this age, the inserts bring the engine movement back under control and you feel it immediately.
