Driveshaft Shop Level 0 Axle Set - 2002-2006 Acura RSX Type-S (RA4008L0 / RA4009L0)

The DC5 Type-S is twenty years old now and axles are wearing out. The usual replacement options aren't great: cheap rebuilds put new boots on a worn core, and generic aftermarket axles are a gamble. This is Driveshaft Shop's Level 0, built as a proper alternative to both, with a chromoly center bar, billet inner CV, and an outer CV design genuinely better than what Honda used. Sold as a left and right pair.

The Outer CV Is Genuinely Better Than Factory

This is the standout engineering detail, and on the DC5 it addresses a known problem.

Honda's factory outer CV uses a dual arc design that has a tendency to wear out prematurely. Driveshaft Shop's outer is custom made with a single arc design instead, which addresses that wear pattern directly. Combined with a new heat treat on the 1117 billet outer, it's a meaningful improvement over the part you're removing.

If your Type-S has developed a click on turns, that's the outer CV telling you it's done. Replacing it with the same design that wore out is how you end up doing this again in a few years.

Better Than A Rebuild

Worth being clear about, because rebuilt axles are what most people reach for and they're the wrong call on a car worth keeping.

A rebuild is a used core with new boots and grease. Whatever wear existed inside is still there. You're buying a part that already failed once and hoping the second run goes better, on a car that's now two decades old and has likely been driven the way a Type-S invites you to drive it.

This is new throughout. Chromoly center bar, real billet inner CV with an oversized tripod, and the redesigned outer. Those aren't things you find on a rebuild or a budget aftermarket axle, and they're why this outlasts what it's replacing rather than repeating the same failure.

Be Clear On What This Is

Driveshaft Shop is unusually direct about positioning, and we'd rather repeat it than let you find out later.

This is not a racing axle. It's a superior stock replacement and swap axle, better than any rebuild or budget aftermarket option, but it isn't built for competition-level power.

There's no horsepower rating and no warranty against breakage. That's Driveshaft Shop's own position on the Level 0 line, not fine print we're glossing over.

For a stock or moderately modified Type-S, that's exactly right and there's no reason to spend more. If you're boosted and making serious power, Driveshaft Shop's higher rated lines are where to look instead.

Removable ABS Rings

Small detail that saves a headache. The axles include removable ABS rings, so you're covered whether your setup uses them or not without needing a different part.

Check Your Range Of Motion After Install

Worth doing, particularly if the car is lowered.

Once fitted, cycle the suspension through full travel and turn to full lock both directions. You're checking that the inner joint isn't bottoming out at compression or over-extending at droop, and that everything clears through the steering range.

On a stock height car this is a quick sanity check. Lowered on coilovers it matters more, since the axle is working through angles Honda didn't plan for.

Who Should Run These

This is for the Type-S owner whose axles have started clicking, and who'd rather put in something better than what failed instead of the same thing again. Stock or moderately built car, driven properly, and worth doing once. Fit them, check your travel, and get back to enjoying the car.
