Driveshaft Shop X4 700HP Axle Set - 2000-2009 Honda S2000 (510156 / 510157)
Factory S2000 axles are fine until they aren't. Add real power, add a sticky tire, and launch it hard enough and they become the thing that ends your day. Driveshaft Shop's X4 line is built from 300M with their best heat treat processes, rated to handle 700 to 1000 wheel horsepower depending on application. The set includes axle spacers, which matters more on this car than most.
Spacers Are Included, and You Probably Want Them
Most S2000s are lowered, and lowering changes the angle your axles work through.
At stock height the axle sits at a modest angle between the differential and the hub. Drop the car and that angle increases, which means the inner joint is working through more articulation than it was designed around and the axle is effectively operating closer to its limits at rest.
The included spacers correct for that, restoring a working angle closer to what the axle wants. On a lowered car that means less strain on the joints, better articulation through suspension travel, and considerably less chance of binding at full droop.
If your car is at stock height you may not need them, but having them in the box means the decision is yours rather than a separate order.
Why Rear-Drive Axles Fail Differently
On a front-drive car, axles fail gradually. The CV joints wear, you get a click on turns, and you replace them before anything dramatic happens.
On an S2000 the failure is more abrupt. These axles don't steer, so there's no articulation wearing them out over time. What kills them is shock loading, and that arrives all at once on a launch or a hard gear change with the tires hooked up.
That's why material strength matters more than wear resistance here. You're not protecting against gradual degradation, you're protecting against a single event that puts more torque through the axle than it can take.
300M Is Why It Holds
300M is a high-strength alloy used where failure isn't an acceptable outcome. Combined with Driveshaft Shop's heat treat processes, it's what lets these survive the shock loading that snaps factory axles.
Axles fail in torsion rather than bending, so material strength through the bar determines whether one survives a hard launch on a prepared surface. That's where the 700 to 1000 wheel horsepower range comes from.

Driveshaft Shop engineered the X4 line for fast street cars that visit the track for drag, road course, and autocross duty. That's a demanding category, since the axle sees daily driving loads, launch shock, and sustained cornering load in the same week.

Check Your Range Of Motion After Install
Once fitted, cycle the suspension through full travel and check that the inner joint isn't bottoming out at compression or over-extending at droop.
Worth doing whether you fitted the spacers or not, since it's the check that tells you whether your specific ride height and setup are working the axle correctly.
