PRODUCT DETAILS

Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch Kit | 10th Gen Civic 1.5T

The Competition Clutch Stage 2 clutch kit with ultra lightweight steel flywheel is the popular holding-power fix for tuned 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T models, including the 2017-2020 Civic Si. The L15B7 responds so well to a tune and bolt-ons that the factory clutch quickly becomes the weak link, and slipping in fourth gear on a pull is usually the first symptom. This kit replaces the whole friction system in one shot: clutch assembly, disc, flywheel, release bearing, and alignment tool.

What It Is and Why It Works

Stage 2 uses Competition Clutch's steelback Brass Plus organic disc, a full-face friction material bonded to an alloy backing, matched to a performance pressure plate. Per manufacturer ratings it holds up to 425 wheel torque, which covers essentially any bolt-on or big-turbo-lite 1.5T street build. The disc diameter grows from the factory 230mm to 240mm, the same size Honda used on the FK8 Civic Type R, so the extra capacity comes from real surface area and clamp load rather than a grabby race compound. That is why this kit stays streetable: engagement is smooth once broken in, with a pedal that is noticeably firmer than stock but nothing your left leg cannot live with in traffic.

The STU suffix on this kit means the ultra lightweight 17 lb billet steel flywheel, the lighter of the two flywheel options Competition Clutch offers for this platform (the ST kit runs a 22 lb wheel). The lighter wheel lets the L15B7 rev and recover faster between shifts, which suits track use and forced induction builds pushing past stock boost. The trade-off is slightly busier low-rpm behavior and a bit more care needed on hill starts.

Fitment

Year Make Model Trim Engine
2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T manual trims (EX-T, Sport, Touring 6MT) L15B7 1.5L turbo
2017-2020 Honda Civic Si L15B7 1.5L turbo

Manual transmission 1.5L turbo cars only. This kit does not fit the 2.0L naturally aspirated Civic manual, and it is not the kit for the FK8 Civic Type R, which uses its own application. Competition Clutch also catalogs this part for later 1.5T platforms such as the 11th gen Civic; if you have a 2022 or newer car, contact us and we will verify before you order.

What to Know Before You Buy

Set expectations for the first tank of gas. Owners consistently see a lower, sharper engagement point than stock and some first-gear and reverse chatter early on, and both settle dramatically after the break-in window. Competition Clutch calls for roughly 500 easy street miles before hard pulls, and on this kit that patience genuinely pays off. The lighter flywheel can also add faint gear rattle at idle, which is normal for a lightened single-mass setup, not a defect. If your Civic is a pure commuter on stock power, this kit is more clutch than you need and the firmer pedal will get old in stop-and-go traffic; a stock replacement or the 22 lb ST version is the calmer choice. For a tuned 1.5T or Si that sees spirited driving or track days, this is the setup we would run, and we would replace the clutch hydraulic fluid at the same time while the car is on the lift.
