You've got a B20 or LS block on the stand and a B16A or B18C5 head going on top of it. That combination needs a head gasket with the right bore, an intake manifold gasket that matches the VTEC head, and the dozen small seals that always turn out to be missing at 9 pm on a Sunday. Cometic's PRO2050T is the Street Pro top end kit built for exactly this hybrid: a non-VTEC B18A, B18B, or B20 block wearing a B16 or Integra Type R VTEC head, with an 84.5mm MLS head gasket in the box.

What It Is and Why It Works

The centerpiece is Cometic's 3-layer MLS head gasket in .030 inch compressed thickness at 84.5mm bore: two embossed stainless outer layers coated in Viton (rated to 482F) around an uncoated stainless shim. The stainless layers spring back through every heat cycle instead of crushing flat, the embossments spread clamp load evenly across the deck, and it seals an aluminum head to the B20's aluminum block without sealant or a re-torque. Around it, Cometic packs the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets for the B16/Type R head, sixteen valve stem seals, two cam seals, a valve cover gasket set, the thermostat seal, and a throttle body gasket. That's everything to close up the top end after a head swap, a valve job, or cams and springs, in one part number instead of eight. The 84.5mm bore is sized for the stock 84mm B20 bore, with the half millimeter of clearance Cometic recommends on a stock or resleeved block.

Fitment

This is the B16 and Type R head version. A B20 or LS block with a B18C1 GS-R head takes a different intake manifold gasket, and Cometic sells that as a separate kit we can order for you. Bottom end gaskets (oil pan, rear main, front seals, water pump) are not included; Cometic's bottom end kit is a separate part.

What to Know Before You Buy

Measure your bore before you commit. The 84.5mm gasket is right for a stock 84mm B20 or a resleeved block at 84mm, and it's also what you'd run on an LS block that's been bored to 84mm. If the block has gone out to 85mm or more, you need a larger-bore head gasket and Cometic makes them; ask us. Run ARP head studs on any LS/VTEC or B20 VTEC that's going to see boost or real revs, because the .030 MLS gasket seals best with the clamp load studs give you. The kit does not include the parts that make the hybrid work in the first place: the VTEC oil feed line and its fittings, the head dowels, and the block plug for the VTEC oil passage all come separately, and on an LS block you'll be drilling and tapping for the feed. Deck the block and check the head for flatness before this gasket goes on; MLS will not forgive a warped surface the way a fiber gasket might. Order the bottom end kit at the same time if the crank is coming out, and grab a set of spark plug tube seals, since the valve cover set in this kit is the perimeter gasket.
