Description

COBB Accessport V3 - Honda Civic Type R (FK8 & FL5) & Acura Integra Type S (DE5)

The COBB Accessport V3 is the easiest way to pull the real power out of your Honda Civic Type R or Acura Integra Type S. Honda and Acura ship these cars with a conservative factory tune built to run on bad gas, pass emissions anywhere, and protect itself in any climate, which leaves meaningful power and a lot of midrange torque sitting on the table. The Accessport reflashes your factory ECU with COBB's calibration, reclaiming that power while keeping the car safe and streetable. It's a handheld unit with a large full-color screen that mounts in the cabin, so it's both the tool you flash with and a live gauge display you leave in the car day to day. It's the world's best-selling ECU upgrade for a reason: it does the hard part for you.

The same Accessport V3 hardware covers the FK8 Civic Type R, the FL5 Civic Type R, and the DE5 Integra Type S. What changes between them is the calibration, the available map stages, the emissions approvals, and how the ECU gets unlocked for flashing. Select your chassis above, and read your car's section below for the details that apply to you.

COBB Custom Features

Beyond the maps, the Accessport unlocks a set of performance features the factory ECU doesn't give you, on all three platforms:

  • Launch Control: holds a set launch RPM when you're flat on the throttle, so you can drop the clutch for a consistent, repeatable launch instead of feathering it every time.
  • Flat Foot Shifting: lets you keep the throttle pinned through upshifts (no-lift-to-shift), which keeps the turbo spooled and boost up so you don't lose momentum between gears.
  • Burnout Mode: lets you spin the front tires to clean or warm them up before a run.

In-Cabin Monitoring and Customization

Mounted in the cabin, the V3's large full-color high-resolution screen monitors up to six engine parameters in real time, so you can keep an eye on boost, intake temps, AFR, and the rest without hanging a cluster of standalone gauges off your pillar. The display is fully customizable: you can set up separate gauge layouts for race, street, and dyno use, choose from multiple bezel colors, and swap between the two included interchangeable faceplates to match your interior. It comes with an in-vehicle mount with an on/off switch and fits thousands of standard vehicle mounts, so you can position it wherever it reads best. Underneath, more processing power, memory, and storage mean faster flashing and room to save all your maps and logs.

FK8 Civic Type R (2017-2021)

The FK8's K20C1 turbo motor responds hard to a tune. Boost, timing, and fuel are all conservative from the factory, and the 2.0T has the headroom to make real gains on the stock airbox and intercooler. You're not chasing a few peak horsepower here; you're fattening up the entire torque curve, which is what makes the car quicker in the real world rather than just on a dyno sheet.

Real Power Gains (Stage 1)

These are COBB's measured Stage 1 numbers against the stock baseline, and the story is in the midrange. On the 91 octane map you're looking at a peak of about 315 hp and 357 ft-lb, with the biggest single-RPM gains landing around +20% in the midrange. Step up to the 93 octane map and it climbs to roughly 326 hp and 377 ft-lb peak, with midrange gains as high as +30% at a single RPM point.

The number that actually matters is the average across the whole rev range, because that's what you feel every time you get on it:

  • 91 octane: average torque goes from 267 to 285 ft-lb, average horsepower from 221 to 239 hp.
  • 93 octane: average torque goes from 267 to 307 ft-lb, average horsepower from 221 to 255 hp.

That average torque jump of roughly 40 ft-lb on 93 is why a tuned FK8 feels like a different car in the midrange, where you actually drive it.

What Stage 1 Needs (FK8)

Stage 1 is designed to run on the stock airbox, filter, and intercooler, so you don't need to buy anything else to use it. A replacement air filter in the factory airbox and exhaust components that retain the factory catalytic converters are both safe to run with the OTS maps, and a stock or upgraded catback works fine. It targets about 25 psi of boost, tapering as the engine approaches redline. The one thing you need to get right is fuel:

  • The 91 map is for 91/92 octane (95 RON) or better.
  • The 93 map is for 93 octane (98 RON) or better.
  • Running higher-octane fuel on a lower-octane map is safe. Running a higher-octane map on lower-octane fuel is not, and it can cause serious engine damage, so match the map to what's in your tank.
  • The maps are built for E10 pump gas. If you're on ethanol-free fuel (like Canadian 94 E0), run the 91/ACN91 map and datalog to confirm it's happy.

Unlock and Install (FK8)

Installation is easy: plug the included OBDII cable into your car's OBDII port and follow the on-screen instructions. The whole thing takes about 6 minutes from your own garage or driveway, no tools. On 2020-2021 cars Honda locked the ECU, so the Accessport has to "jailbreak" it first using the COBB Unlock Box, which is included with every kit. The 2017-2019 cars don't need it. Either way the end result is the same; the later cars just have one extra step up front.

Emissions and Fitment (FK8)

Legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles in all 50 states when used per COBB's application guide, under CARB Executive Order numbers D-660-174 and D-660-216.

FL5 Civic Type R & DE5 Integra Type S (2023+)

The FL5 Civic Type R and the DE5 Acura Integra Type S share the same platform and the same turbocharged K20C1, so they run the same Accessport calibrations. Like the FK8, these cars leave a lot on the table from the factory, and COBB's maps reclaim it with more boost and more aggressive timing and fueling for a real gain in both low-end torque and top-end power.

A Longer Staged Path

Where the FK8 runs a Stage 0 / Stage 1 path, the FL5 and DE5 get a fuller ladder of COBB performance maps: Stage 1, Stage 1+, and Stage 2, each one more aggressive than the last. As with every platform, Stage 0 keeps the full factory calibration and makes no extra power; it just unlocks the Accessport's monitoring and datalogging functions on a stock tune. The OTS maps are built for otherwise-stock cars, so a replacement air filter in the factory airbox and exhaust that retains the factory catalytic converters are safe to run on them. The higher up the ladder you go, the more the map expects supporting hardware and the right fuel, so check COBB's map notes for the exact fuel grade and parts each stage calls for before you flash it.

Read This First: ECU Must Be Shipped to COBB to Unlock

This is the big difference from the FK8, and you need to know it before you buy. On the FL5 and DE5, the Accessport can't communicate with the ECU until the ECU has been unlocked, and that unlock is not done in the car. You remove your ECU and ship it to COBB Tuning, they unlock it, and you reinstall it. That means real downtime with the car off the road while the ECU is out, and it's a step you have to plan around rather than a 6-minute driveway flash like the FK8. Once your unlocked ECU is back in the car, flashing and map-switching work from the handheld like normal. Factor the ship-in time into your plans, especially if this is your daily driver.

Emissions and Fitment (FL5/DE5)

Why the Accessport

The Accessport is the world's best-selling, most flexible, and easiest-to-use ECU upgrade for your Honda or Acura. It unlocks the power hidden behind conservative factory settings, lets you follow a staged upgrade path with COBB's preloaded OTS maps, and supports full custom mapping from a tuner for any modification level down the road. It grows with your build instead of becoming the thing you replace, which makes it the last engine management solution you'll need.

Note: Match your map to your fuel and your modifications, and never run a higher-octane or higher-stage map than your fuel and hardware support. Low-quality fuel or a mismatched calibration can cause serious engine damage. If you move beyond the bolt-on stages, get a proper custom tune rather than stacking parts on an OTS map.
